About the role

Position Purpose:
The Senior Director of Internal Communications is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive internal communications strategy that engages associates, strengthens culture, and aligns the workforce with the company’s vision, mission, and business priorities. This role serves as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, ensuring consistent, transparent, and impactful communication across all levels of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and lead an integrated internal communications strategy that fosters associate engagement, strengthens company culture, and supports organizational change initiatives.
  • Partner with executive leadership and functional leaders to craft clear, compelling messaging that aligns with corporate priorities and resonates with diverse associate audiences.
  • Develop and oversee communication channels (intranet, newsletters, leadership messages, digital platforms, town halls, etc.) to ensure timely, accessible, and impactful content delivery.
  • Advise and support senior leaders on effective communication approaches, including speechwriting, talking points, and presentation development.
  • Lead communication strategies for enterprise-wide initiatives such as business transformation, mergers & acquisitions, integrations, and associate engagement campaigns.
  • Manage communication planning for acquisitions, including announcement strategies, associate transition updates, culture integration messaging, and change management communications.
  • Leverage data and feedback tools (e.g., surveys, focus groups, analytics) to measure communication effectiveness and continuously improve strategy and execution.
  • Ensure consistent brand voice and tone across all associate communications, reinforcing the company’s purpose, values, and culture.
  • Stay informed on best practices, trends, and technologies in associate communications and engagement.

Direct Manager/Direct Reports:

  • This position typically reports to the CHRO
  • This position typically has 0-2 direct reports

Travel Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel up to 20% as needed.

Physical Requirements

  • Most of the time spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about.

Working Conditions

  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in internal or corporate communications, with significant leadership responsibility.
  • Proven success designing and implementing enterprise-wide communication strategies that drive engagement and support business transformation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading communications for mergers & acquisitions, including pre-close planning, announcement execution, and post-close integration.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex ideas into clear, engaging messages.
  • Strong executive presence and ability to build trusted relationships with senior leaders.
  • Experience managing teams and influencing across a matrixed organization.
  • Proficiency in digital communication platforms, tools, and analytics.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and build consensus across diverse functional groups.
  • Experience with change management, cultural integration, and organizational alignment.

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field

Preferred Education:

  • Masters or equivalent advanced degree preferred.

Minimum Years of Work Experience:

  • Minimum 15 years of progressive leadership experience with a strong focus on post-merger integration, transformation, or large-scale program management.
