About the role

Job Summary & Objectives

 The Network Engineer II will be crucial for maintaining and advancing Simpson Thacher’s network infrastructure and aligning with our dedication to operational excellence and innovation. As a Network Engineer II, you are expected to be a strategic thinker, capable of overseeing network projects and making impactful decisions. Building collaborative relationships with various teams is key, as you will be instrumental in Tactical direction of our network infrastructure. Your role will directly influence the robustness, efficiency, and scalability of our network systems, playing a significant role in maintaining the operational excellence and security posture of the company.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of our complex network infrastructure, ensuring high availability and optimal performance.
  •  Resolve critical network issues, maintaining the stability and security of our network services using advanced network troubleshooting.
  • Work on network (Bandwidth) capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices.
  • Oversee the installation of new hardware and network systems, and to manage the upgrading of existing systems to meet our evolving business needs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including the Architecture and Design, Service Delivery and Cyber teams, to ensure a cohesive and secure IT infrastructure.
  • Mentor network engineers and team members, sharing knowledge and promoting best practices in network administration and security.
  • Keep abreast of new technologies and network practices and evaluating their potential application within our organization.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
  • Installing and configuring networking hardware in a Global Environment.
  • Creating and implementing network security measures.
  • Managing and mentoring junior Network Engineers.
  • Scheduling and conducting regular network performance tests.
  • Performing networking maintenance tasks.
  • Dealing with escalated network support issues.
  • Drawing up network status reports.

Education

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, 3+ years of Network Engineering experience

Skills and Experience

Required

  • 3+ years relevant professional experience in network engineering.
  • Expertise in managing and configuring enterprise-wide LANs, WANs, WLANs, VPNs, etc.
  • Excellent understanding of network infrastructure and network hardware, including experience with routers, switches, firewalls, and associated network protocols and concepts.
  • Advanced knowledge of application transport and network infrastructure protocols.
  • Ability to create accurate network diagrams and documentation for design and planning network communication systems.
  • Knowledge of Cisco Catalyst and Nexus device configuration
  • Cisco router configuration and hardening a plus.
  • Working Knowledge of IP routing include routing protocols EIGRP, OSPF and BGP.
  • Experience with Cisco ISE based identity and access control.
  • Experience with Cisco ACI and Cisco DNA is a plus.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities, coupled with a strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills, capable of working with other Network Engineers and projects.
  • Understand network operating systems including Cisco, Palo Alto, and IOS.
  • Experienced with communication and routing protocols.
  • Familiarity with network analysis tools including Thousand Eyes, SolarWinds.
  • High level problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Perform configuration, upgrades on the Network infrastructure.
  • experience 3+ Year configuring and troubleshooting Cisco network routers, switches and firewalls for medium and large size locations and enterprises, including  Global Data Centers.
  • Cisco certifications a Plus
  • Knowledgeable of Web Security Systems, Two Factor Authentication, SMTP Gateway servers, Cisco ASA and SSL VPN, Global Protect
  • Ability to support Site-to-Site VPN, Client VPN connectivity, SDWAN-Palo Alto IONS and Cisco Enterprise Wi-Fi solutions.
