Qualdoc is seeking On-Site Machinists to set and operate manually controlled machines in skilled precision to perform repairs to equipment, vessels, and mechanical structures at customer facilities or at our Portsmouth, Virginia locations. Our On-Site Machinists travel to customer locations locally, throughout the United States, and abroad to perform site surveys and carry out repairs.
Qualdoc is seeking On-Site Machinists to set and operate manually controlled machines in skilled precision to perform repairs to equipment, vessels, and mechanical structures at customer facilities or at our Portsmouth, Virginia locations. Our On-Site Machinists travel to customer locations locally, throughout the United States, and abroad to perform site surveys and carry out repairs.
Major Responsibilities & Essential Functions:
- Transport and set up tools, machinery, and fixtures to support machining operations
- Perform machining operations using equipment such as portable milling machines, clamshell lathes, line boring systems, grinding machines, hydraulic tensioning systems, and various hand and power tools
- Take measurements of machined features using precision measuring equipment
- Properly and safely select, align, secure, and remove holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines
- Recognize, deploy, and properly use inserts, fixtures, and tooling
- Perform mechanical assembly and disassembly of equipment using hand and power tools
- Study applicable drawings and prints and follow instructions
- Determine the proper tools required to perform tasks
- Operate lifting aids as necessary to perform work
- Communicate with customers and government representatives to coordinate work onsite
- Track parts and jobs in JobBOSS and Travelers
- Perform all tasks safely, maintaining a clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
- Complete inspection and as-found condition reports for completed work
- Work overtime as needed on evenings and/or weekends
- Other duties as assigned
Preferred Machining Skills:
- Experience with Lathes, Grinders, Boring Mills, Planers, and Portable Tools
- Skilled in Turning, Drilling, Tapping, Boring, Honing, and Polishing machine processes
- Large part machining experience preferred (ship propeller shafting, ship steering gear, etc.)

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- 3 to 5 years related experience preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively and understand job instructions verbally and in writing (in English)
- Ability to interpret and translate instructions to other employees professionally
- Ability and willingness to learn
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to interpret various technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables
- Strong interest in engineering and mechanical systems
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints
- Ability to read precision measuring tools
- Ability to perform basic mathematical computations
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Basic understanding of Microsoft Word and Excel
Physical Demands:
- Ability to move or transfer products with an overhead crane
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs. when required
- While performing job duties, the employee will regularly be required to stand, walk, reach overhead with hands and arms, stoop, crouch, kneel, climb ladders, and use stairs
- Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
- The employee will also be expected to spend time using a computer

- The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate to high.
