About the role

The Financial Analyst III assists business units in the preparation of the annual financial plan/budget and recurring forecasts and provides a basis for sound financial decision-making through quantitative financial analyses. The Financial Analyst III works closely with business unit personnel in performing these functions. This is competent-level professional work in which incumbents fulfill their assigned roles, apply their job skills, and work under available supervision.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develops financial plans and budgets in accordance with established budget information requirements. Monitors actual versus budgeted expenditures and revenues. Prepares budget variance explanations and revised budget forecasts. Tracks and analyzes Incentive Compensation goals. Performs cost/benefit, cost structure, and other financial analyses. Creates standing and ad hoc financial reports. Collects, processes, and tracks fees.
  • Contributes to the enhancement of financial planning systems and processes including developing detailed timelines for the budget process, establishing financial targets, updating planning process documentation and conducting training sessions.
  • Advises budget planners during the preparation of the annual financial plan/ budget and forecasts to ensure that process requirements are communicated and met.
  • Assists in developing and administering the Hyperion Pillar planning tool used for budgeting, planning and forecasting. Development support includes setting up the model’s calculations, users, reports, etc. in accordance with the current year’s planning process structure. Administrative support entails working with other financial tools such as PeopleSoft financials, Essbase and Cognos.
  • Assists budget planners in establishing detailed revenue plans for the budget and three-year projections using run rates, projecting revenue volumes and incorporating any pricing changes.
  • Assists budget planners in developing baseline costs including headcount and capital resources for the budget and three-year plan using run rates and business drivers that affect baseline spending patterns.
  • Assists budget planners in identifying internal customers, developing cost allocation percentages and preparing justifications for cost allocation methodologies. Develops and updates the cost allocation model to be used for the budget and review administrative support costs with business lines.
  • Assists business and technology in the preparation of business justifications and long-term projections related to new initiatives.
  • Assists in the development of the overall long-term financial plan including profit and loss and cash flow projections which reflect business initiatives included in the Strategic Plan.
  • Assembles forecast and financial plan/budget information and assists in the preparation of presentations by business line and financial management to the COO, CEO, President and the Boards.
  • Analyzes recurring forecasts using revenue and expense run rates, knowledge of macroeconomic and other business factors which drive business volume and knowledge of business unit initiatives.
  • Assists in preparation of monthly executive financial summaries distributed to senior management. Includes working with business line controllers and financial reporting team in analyzing monthly financial results for revenues and key volume indicators, business and technology expenses, cash flows and headcount.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field, or the equivalent; MBA preferred. Five years of experience in a financial environment. Proficiency with the use of a desktop computer utilizing interactive financial modeling, financial, spreadsheet, and relational database applications.

Work Conditions:

  • Work is normally performed in an office environment. Occasional travel may be required. Extended hours may be required. Operation of desktop computer and ability to move between work stations is required.

In addition to location, actual compensation is based on various factors, including but not limited to, the candidate’s skill set, level of experience, education, and internal peer compensation comparisons.

California: Minimum Salary $91,500, Maximum Salary $170,900

Washington, DC/Maryland: Minimum Salary $91,500, Maximum Salary $163,700
Colorado/Hawaii: Minimum Salary $79,500, Maximum Salary $142,300
New York, NY: Minimum Salary $95,400, Maximum Salary $170,900
Washington State: Minimum Salary $79,500, Maximum
