Actual starting pay will vary based on factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, skills, specialty, and education.

Eligible for an Annual Discretionary Cash Bonus Target: 10%

Eligible for an Annual Discretionary Restricted Stock Units Bonus Target: 10%

These discretionary target bonuses may be awarded semi-annually based upon your achievement of performance goals and targets.

About This Job

This position will be on-site and located at our HQ at San Diego, California. Remote or Hybrid is not available.

Axos Bank is seeking a Lead Quality Engineer with a strong background in testing web and mobile applications, particularly in the online banking domain. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with automation frameworks—either UI or API—and a passion for delivering high-quality, secure, and user-friendly digital banking experiences. Experience with low-code/no-code automation platforms like Testim is a plus. You’ll be leading a fast-paced quality engineering team that values precision, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities 

• Lead organization-wide quality initiatives with an automation-first and AI-first mindset. 

• Design, develop, and maintain automated test scripts for web and mobile applications. 

• Participate in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives as part of an Agile team. 

• Collaborate with developers, product managers, and other quality engineers to understand requirements and define test strategies. 

• Oversee release coordination activities and provide formal Quality endorsement confirming the project’s readiness for deployment. 

• Maintain standardized quality dashboards for each project to monitor key metrics and performance indicators. 

• Attend project status meetings to showcase automation and AI impact. 

• Escalate quality-related conflicts to QE management. 

• Mentor QEs through 1-on-1 guidance and peer review sessions. 

Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field. 

• 7+ years of experience in software quality assurance, with a focus on leading a team of 6 or more. 

• Proficiency in at least one area of automation: UI automation using frameworks like Selenium or Cypress, mobile automation using Appium, or API automation using tools such as Postman or RestAssured. 

• Experience testing both web UI and mobile applications (iOS and Android). 

• Experience working with SQL databases for test data validation and backend verification. 

• Exposure to low-code/no-code automation platforms such as Testim is a plus. 

• Familiarity with AI fundamentals and AI usage in software testing 

• Strong understanding of QA methodologies, tools, and processes. 

• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development practices. 

• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate issues and collaborate across teams. 

• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. 

• Experience in the banking or fintech industry is a plus
