Scope of Position:
The Water Safety Instructor-1 will be responsible for providing aquatic education to patrons.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Create a positive experience for patrons through professional and courteous behavior.
- Teach swim lessons to preschool and school age children, levels 1-6.
- Provide excellent internal and external customer service. Create a positive experience for patrons through professional and courteous behavior.
- Effective verbal and written communication.
- Must be able to handle stressful situations.
- Ability to work effectively as a team player.
- Practice safe work habits and contribute to the safety of self, co-workers, and the general public.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- May be asked to teach aquatic exercise programs in deep and shallow water.
- Provide a program/class atmosphere that promotes and encourages inclusion and satisfaction to all participants.
- Participate in in-service training, orientations and other staff meetings as requested.
- Complete applicable reports and records.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Regular and punctual attendance are essential job requirements.
- Assume a schedule of flexible working hours, including weekends and evenings.
- Maintain a neat, professional appearance.
- Safe aquatic practices.
- Tools, materials, and equipment needed to maintain swimming pools.
- Emergency procedures and accident site management.
- The person in this position must have the ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner in conformity with The Salvation Army Mission Statement. They must be able to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances. Must be able to exercise good judgment and be comfortable taking initiative with projects.
