What You'll Do Day-to-Day

As an Intervention Specialist, you will play a critical role in supporting students across learning, communication, behavioral, social-emotional, and community environments.

You will:

  • Implement individualized instructional and behavioral supports aligned with student IEPs and educational goals.

  • Support students in developing communication, self-advocacy, social interaction, self-regulation, and independent living skills.

  • Utilize evidence-based practices designed to support students with autism and developmental disabilities.

  • Assist in implementing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and positive behavioral support strategies across school settings.

  • Collect and monitor student data to support instructional and behavioral decision-making.

  • Facilitate student participation in classroom learning, school activities, community experiences, and inclusion opportunities.

  • Support students in the use of assistive technology and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems.

  • Collaborate closely with teachers, behavior specialists, therapists, nurses, and families to promote consistent support and student growth.

  • Help create structured, engaging, and supportive learning environments that maximize participation and success.

  • Build positive, respectful relationships with students while maintaining professional boundaries and high expectations.

  • Support student health, safety, and personal care needs, including toileting, feeding, and mobility assistance when required.

  • Utilize approved de-escalation and crisis intervention procedures following successful completion of required training.

  • Participate in ongoing professional development and continuous learning to strengthen your skills and expertise.
