Description
The Environmental Studies Program at Hobart and William Smith Colleges invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor position, beginning August 1, 2025. This is a full-time, one-year position with a teaching load of six courses per year. The appointment has the possibility for renewal contingent on successful annual review and ongoing curricular needs. We seek an interdisciplinary environmental scientist with strong quantitative skills and a commitment to undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts setting. The successful candidate will teach introductory and intermediate courses in Environmental Studies/Science and will contribute to our interdisciplinary program in Data Analytics.
The salary range for this position is $59,160-$68,000.

Qualifications
Candidates should have a Ph.D. or ABD in Environmental Science or a related field, with expertise in any area of environmental science, including but not limited to climate, water, natural resources, wildlife, waste, energy, or sustainability. We are particularly interested in candidates who embrace the values of a liberal arts education, including small class sizes, close faculty-student interaction, and experiential learning. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about mentoring undergraduates, fostering critical thinking, and helping students apply environmental science and data analysis skills across disciplines. We welcome applicants who incorporate field-based, spatial, or computational approaches into their teaching and engage students in real-world environmental problem-solving.
