Job Description: The Assistant Director of Support Services and Wellness at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU) Office of Student Affairs (OSA) plays a vital role in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment for our students. With a strong emphasis on executive coaching principles, the successful candidate will provide personalized support to help students achieve their academic and professional goals.

They will be responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing initiatives, programs, and activities enhancing student support services, wellness, and well-being, during the academic journey of CMSRU students.

This position requires a highly motivated individual with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills to interact with students while also exercising independent judgment and maintaining confidentiality. The successful candidate will report to the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs.

Responsibilities:

Asst Director of Student Support Services:

  • Serve as a coach and advocate for medical students facing personal, emotional, academic, and social challenges.
  • Provide brief solution-focused counseling and executive coaching to support students in achieving their academic and professional goals.
  • Utilize coaching methodologies to enhance self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and leadership capacity among students.
  • Advise students on accessing appropriate CMSRU resources, including the Student Wellness Program, psychiatry services, and student health services.
  • Offer one-on-one and group coaching sessions that empower students to navigate medical school challenges.
  • Guide students who are considering alternate curricular paths, including Leaves of Absence, Independent Study, Student Scholar Research and Flexible Curricular programs.
  • Collaborate with identified parties to facilitate the Proactive Advising for Student Support (PASS) program, offering tailored coaching interventions to students experiencing academic concerns.

Executive Coaching Support:

  • Provide individualized executive coaching to identified students to build resilience, self-efficacy, and strategic decision-making skills.
  • Incorporate executive coaching practices to encourage personal growth, resilience, and well-being through reflective and goal-oriented coaching sessions.
  • Empower students to set and achieve personal and professional goals through structured coaching

conversations.

  • Utilize evidence-based coaching models to foster growth and development in a challenging academic environment.

Wellness Program Specialist:

  • Plan, organize, and execute wellness events and activities that promote holistic well-being.
  • Partner with students, student organizations, faculty, and staff to identify and address student wellness needs.
  • Develop and implement strategies to foster student participation in wellness initiatives.
  • Provide oversight to both the CMSRU Student Wellness Committee and Faculty and Staff Wellness Committee.
  • Serve as a liaison for wellness initiatives with Cooper University Healthcare, Rutgers Student Wellness Program (SWP), and Rowan University.
  • Maintain a comprehensive database of student resources and wellness programming.
  • Conduct assessments through data collection, analyzing survey results to enhance student satisfaction and program effectiveness.

Office of Student Affairs:

  • Provide event support for OSA as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications (Required):

  • Master’s Degree. Preferred Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) and Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Master's Degree in Counseling and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or a Master’s Degree in Education.
  • A minimum of five years’ full-time experience in higher education, student affairs, counseling, health systems.
  • Experience providing executive coaching.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to engage with a diverse student population.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 & Google applications, online platforms, data entry, and analytics.
