What we need:

 

The Assistant Plant Controller in Thomasville, NC will be responsible for moderately complex to complex general ledger accounts that present a diverse range of issues and data requiring the application of in-depth analysis and research necessary to support the daily activities of the department. Works with latitude for independent decision-making and judgment within the framework of the job’s primary duties. Partner with internal and external customers, vendors and other agencies to resolve account reconciliation issues.

 

What you’ll do:

 

  • Prepare journal entries and general ledger account reconciliation for accounts with greater complexity that is managed by the department. Research and document financial fluctuations. Collect data from source documents through data downloads and extracts verify and confirm data accuracy. Create and analyze accounting reports for distribution and reporting and prepare spreadsheets used for analytical information.
  • Work closely with Purchasing, Inventory Control, Manufacturing, and Engineering to implement the appropriate policies and procedures to capture and account for the Cost of Goods (COGS), standard costs and variable operating costs.
  • Responsible for analyzing and releasing standard cost for all locations.
  • Lead labor and overhead standards setting, maintenance and tracking.
  • Prepare, analyze and track monthly excess and obsolete reserves and Lower of Cost or Market analysis.
  • Maintain and reconciles inventory general ledger and sub ledger accounts.
  • Prepare on-going general ledger account reconciliations on a monthly basis.
  • Responsible for expense tracking and budget to expense variance analysis for multiple cost centers.
  • Support monthly manufacturing closing process.
  • Prepare support schedules for external auditors and general ledger account roll forwards.
  • Participate in and verifies physical inventory counts.
  • Prepare and respond to ad-hoc Financial Planning and Analysis requests related to Cost Accounting issues.
  • Participate in special projects as needed, providing support for all plants as required.
  • Assist with Sarbanes Oxley documentation, reporting and testing.
  • Establishes, maintains and reports data based on regulatory requirements, GAAP and best practices.
  • Complies with all company safety rules and procedures.
  • Remain current on department operating processes and compliance guidelines, informs customers accordingly and ensure that processed transactions are compliant. Inform management of non-compliant or questionable issues. Work closely with management, team members and assigned business units to ensure the timely and accurate communication, implementation, and monitoring of regulatory, corporate and department compliance guidelines.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers, vendors, and agencies to ensure prompt and accurate resolution of variances and discrepancies, account reconciliation and reporting. Resolve and/or provide guidance to junior team members with more complex transactions and reconciliation issues.

 

What you have:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline required.
  • Manufacturing background.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) required.
  • Knowledge of economic principles, auditing practices and principles, and applicable laws, codes and regulations.
  • 3-4+ years of experience in accounting and administration that includes journal entry preparation, General Ledger Accounting, account reconciliations, Fixed Assets, and budgeting.

 

What you’re good at:

 

  • Proficiency with PC and software applications including Advanced Excel, Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency using department database systems such as SAP and AS400.
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal skills. Ability to effectively interact with and make presentations to senior executives, regulatory agencies, and other internal and external customer. Ability to exercise good judgment and resourcefulness in the absence of formalized guidelines and procedures.
