Your Specific Responsibilities:

The Florida Department of Health in Escambia County is seeking a motivated Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), Board Certified in Family Practice who is seeking an opportunity to provide quality medical care to members of our community. This position is a wonderful opportunity to work in our Adult and Pediatric Primary Care, Family Planning, TB, Refugee Health, FBCCEDP, HIV and STD clinics. This is a career service position working Monday through Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM. There are no weekend or holiday work requirements and no on call hours, except in the event of a natural disaster. Primary responsibility is application of nursing principles and techniques in the care and treatment of clients, client assessment, medication issuance, counseling clients, arranging appropriate referrals and testing, appropriate documentation in the medical record. This position is required to work various assigned clinics according to clinic needs.

 

Must be able to perform independently with the primary responsibility to perform specialized and comprehensive care to clients of Primary Care/Family Planning/HIV and STD clinics. Family Planning services are provided according to the Federal Title X Guidelines. ln addition, must be able to assess, diagnose and treat STD diseases and related conditions.

 

Assess patient's total health needs through advanced examination, including medical history, observation, physical examination, and procedures necessary to obtain smears and cultures for the detection of infection and abnormalities.

 

Work is performed under the supervision of the Health Medical Executive Director.

 

This is an advanced, specialized, and highly responsible position providing Primary Care Services to Adults and Pediatric clients, Family Planning Services, and performing certain delegated diagnostic and medical acts within established protocols at the Escambia County Health Department (Escambia CHD). The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), Board Certified in Family Practice, works under the direct supervision of the Health Medical Executive Director, providing direct client services fulfilling Medicaid, Title X and Escambia CHD Standard Operational Procedure (SOP) requirements, conforming to national standards of care.  Provides required documentation and reviews the documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).  Assures compliance with current Department of Health security policies by fulfilling the Information Custodian responsibilities described in Security Policy 3, areas of responsibilities. Ensures that data set (s) under this position’s responsibilities are available to those who need to know and protects the integrity of assigned dataset(s) and assists the Security Coordinator as needed to comply with policies and procedures. Travel may be required.

 

Title X / Women’s Health Services – Secures complete health, psychosocial, obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN), and sexual history and records findings in a systematic, accurate and succinct form utilizing the EHR. Performs examinations on Family Planning and Florida Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (FBCCEDP) patients as appropriate, according to national and local guidelines. Obtains Pap smears, Gonorrhea (GC) and Chlamydia (CT) testing, wet mount, and provides prescriptions as appropriate. Makes appropriate referrals for abnormalities to primary medical doctor (PMD) or specialty care.  Performs, orders, and interprets routine laboratory tests including urine chorionic gonadotropin (UCG), wet mount, sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing, pap smears, and mammograms as appropriate. Initiates and adjusts contraception plans and devices to include Nexplanon. Obtains informed consent with emphasis on pertinent aspects and safety of birth control method chosen by the client.   Provides clients with health education and counseling including psychosocial dimensions in areas of nutrition to include but not limited to healthy weight, diabetes, and hypertension.  Counseling also includ
