POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

This is a professional position responsible for the operation of a multi-operatory dental office with the assistance of one or more dental assistants and direct supervision over the clinic's dental assistants, senior clerk , and dental hygienist. This position provides emergency, surgical, preventive and restorative dental care to eligible patients. General and daily supervision of this position will be performed directly by the PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICES MANAGER F-SES/Dental Administrator.

Manage and supervise the operation of the dental clinic to which assigned, insuring the proper flow of patients to the clinic and their care, supervising the maintenance and general housekeeping of the instruments, equipment, and clinic spaces, as well as maintenance of an adequate supply of dental supplies and materials. Conduct morning huddles and staff meetings to review procedures and opportunities for improvement within the work unit.

Direct the work of employees to ensure best use of time and resources. Oversee staff to ensure they assemble necessary materials, instruments, and medications for each treatment session and conduct radiographic surveys on each patient.

Oversees staff to ensure the monitoring of each patient's treatment progress and schedule accordingly. Oversee staff to ensure they follow Infection Control protocol as described in OSHA's(Occupational Safety and Health Administration) regulations for "blood-borne Pathogen Standards" during clinical procedures. Ensure that staff maintain adequate clinical supply levels and order replacement items when necessary. Monitor staff to ensure they prepare and execute proper sterilization and disinfection procedures for instruments and equipment, including monitoring the effectiveness of autoclave sterilizer using biologic monitor as provided. Ensure that staff execute and maintain accurate patient treatment records and other pertinent documents for proper clinic operation. Ensure that staff do periodic monitoring of recall patient charts and when needed, assist in the scheduling and confirmation of appointments of all dental patients for treatment.

Ensure that staff discuss clinic policy with patients and parents and correspond with other clinic personnel regarding referrals for care and furnish information regarding eligibility and fees for treatment via telephone and mail. Oversee staff to ensure they provide instruction in proper oral hygiene skills, including tooth brushing and flossing to clinic patients and instruct patients in proper diet habits and explain the relationship of nutrition to dental caries. Ensure that staff distribute and explain patient education materials and instruct expectant mothers of clinic patients (guidance). Ensure that staff operate and maintain all clinical equipment in proper working order and report all malfunctions and needs for repair or overhaul to Dental Administration office. Acknowledge completion of repairs by contract vendors and report such completion to Dental Administration office. Ensure that staff perform other related duties such as inputting patient treatment data into the Health Department patient service HMS (Health Management System)
