This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Waccamaw Center for Mental Health at 501 Nelson Blvd, Kingstree, South Carolina, 29556. 

Under general supervision, from clinic director and/or clinic supervisor, provide therapeutic services for children and adolescents. Provide intakes, counseling and case management dealing with situations encompassing interpersonal, health and psychosocial factors.  Provide crisis diversion services and consultation to individual and/or agencies, hospitals and WCMH Outpatient Clinic.  This position will be required to provide on-call services as directed by Clinic Director. 

Responsibilities for the Mental Health Professional I: 

• Provide outpatient mental health therapy/counseling and case management to individuals and families with a focus on the chronically mentally ill and those with emotional disturbances by utilizing individual, group, and family counseling. 

• Maintain an average bill time of 854 direct service hours annually. 

• Attend staff meetings and ensure chart documentation and review are complete according to quality assurance standards.

• Perform assessments, screening assessing medication needs, history, and mental status, making necessary treatment recommendations.

• Develop treatment plans in coordination with patients, family, and treatment team.

• Assist with treatment scheduling and meetings. 

• Support patients in gaining appropriate services, consults with local agencies, organizations and human service providers.

• Provide case management for patients, monitors progress, including compliance with prescribed psychiatric medicines, evaluates and updates treatment plans, and educates patients and their families about mental health treatment and diagnoses. 

• Demonstrate thorough knowledge of the scope and range of services provided in a comprehensive community mental health program servicing adults, adolescents and children, and their families while understanding the unique treatment of this population.
  
  
  
  

Examples of duties

• Masters’ degree in guidance, counseling, or the social sciences or a related field.

• In order to be credentialed for core services as a Mental Health Professional at the SC Office of Mental Health, applicants must provide evidence of clinical experience providing direct patient care of at least one year.  This experience may be documented as a practicum or internship during graduate program, or post-graduate clinical experience. Please be sure to provide specific clinical activities on your application and/or resume.
• Must show evidence of graduate coursework in 3 out of the 4 - psychopathology, psychopathology diagnostics, medical ethics and clinical assessment - practice with family therapy (DSM). 

Qualifications

• Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
