The Manager, Human Resources (HR) works closely with VP, HR and DEI in supporting the organizations HR needs. The manager, HR carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: employee relations, policy implementation, employment law compliance, training and general HR administration. This role will serve as a consultative role for management and employees on human-resources related matters. This position also supports and assists on various HR projects as requested by the VP, HR & DEI. This position will also partner with APEI corporate human resources and may engage with other Education Unit human resources partners.

Responsibilities: 

  • Serves as primary HR contact for the School of Nursing, working closely with their leadership team to support any HR related needs and partnering with APEI HR team to help find resolutions.
  • Consults with management, providing HR guidance and support as appropriate related to HR policy guidance and interpretation.
  • Consults and provides guidance on performance management including coaching, feedback, documentation, and termination.
  • Works closely with management to identify positions that need compensation & market adjustment reviews, assists managers with updating job descriptions and partners with APEI compensation team to complete review.
  • Assist in creating and implementing diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives for the university.
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Partners with legal team to identify policy needs and assists with updates/ implementation as needed.
  • Works closely with management and provides training to managers/employees on various HR and employee relations related functions including the disciplinary process, stay interview process and other training needs as they arise.
  • Works closely with managers to help promote a positive work environment, improve employee engagement, build morale, and assist in increasing productivity and meeting employee retention goals.
  • Assists VP HR & DEI in supporting the creation and adoption of enterprise-wide initiatives when possible, and execution of HR programs and offerings.
  • Partners with VP, HR & DEI at Rasmussen and with the APEI HR shared services team on planning and implementation of HR annual objectives and goals related to Total Rewards (Benefits, Compensation, Payroll, HRIS) and Talent Teams (Talent Acquisition, Talent Development) for Rasmussen employees.
  • Will support elevated employee HR operational concerns in partnership with AskHR team.
  • Works closely with VP HR & DEI and Director of Innovation to identify, strategize and support Rasmussen company-employee recognition program with guidance and in partnership of the APEI talent team.
  • Supports HR compliance function including annual training, annual document acknowledgements, and policy review.
  • Helps to prepare and analyze quarterly reporting on turnover, recruiting, and other HR metrics for HR and executive leadership. May assist with presenting solutions or recommendations as appropriate.
  • Assists in evaluation of reports, decisions and results of the Rasmussen HR department in relation to established university goals. Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of the department and services performed.
  • Ensures human resources policies and procedures are communicated and adhered to; assists with communication of new or updated policies that affect employees.
  • Maintains Rasmussen job descriptions and works with managers to identify needs for compensation, grading and market analysis needs.
  • May serve as back up to address employee concerns and grievances, conducting investigations when necessary and recommending appropriate resolutions.
  • Assists VP HR & DEI to align HR functions in support of Rasmussen strategic goals.
  • Assists with EU organizational restructuring and reduction support as needed.
  • Maintains a high degree of confidentiality when dealing with management and staff on employee matters.
  • Serves as back up for the VP HR & DEI when out of office.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

Reporting Relationship:

The Manager, Human Resources reports to the Vice President, Human Resources & DEI. This role has no direct reports but has potential to serve in a people manager role in the future.
