Job Description
The Part-Time Building Trades Instructor provides high-quality classroom, laboratory, and hands-on instruction that prepares students for employment and advancement in the construction industry. The instructor delivers competency-based training aligned with industry standards, employer needs, and nationally recognized credentials while fostering a culture of safety, professionalism, and student success. Instruction may occur in classrooms, construction laboratories, employer worksites, correctional facilities, community training centers, and other off-site instructional locations.
This position supports the College of Southern Nevada’s Division of Workforce Education by developing and delivering short-term workforce training, customized employer training, pre-apprenticeship, apprenticeship, and career pathway programs in the building and construction trades.
Essential Responsibilities
Deliver engaging classroom, laboratory, and hands-on instruction in building trades including:
Construction Fundamentals
Carpentry
Residential and Commercial Construction
Blueprint Reading
Framing
Drywall Installation and Repair
Finish Carpentry
Construction Materials
Construction Mathematics
Tool Identification and Safe Use
OSHA Construction Safety
Develop lesson plans and competency-based instructional materials aligned with industry standards.
Prepare students for nationally recognized industry credentials including NCCER Core, OSHA 10/30, and First Aid/CPR certifications.
Maintain a safe instructional environment by enforcing OSHA regulations and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Assess student learning and provide timely feedback and coaching.
Maintain accurate attendance, grades, certification records, and other required documentation.
Collaborate with local contractors, employers, labor organizations, apprenticeship programs, and workforce partners to ensure training meets industry demand.
Assist with student recruitment, retention, completion, and employment placement efforts.
Maintain instructional equipment, laboratories, tools, and supply inventories.
Participate in curriculum development and continuous program improvement initiatives.
Support grant-funded workforce training and customized employer training programs.
Participate in professional development to remain current with construction methods, technologies, building codes, and instructional best practices.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the building or construction trades.
