Organizational Overview: 

The Bioproduct Research and Development (BR&D) organization develops new medicines that address significant unmet needs by leveraging innovative scientific capabilities. BR&D is a multidisciplinary group with deep technical expertise that works collaboratively with our discovery and manufacturing colleagues. Located in Indianapolis, IN, scientists have full access to Lilly’s deep pharmaceutical development expertise and engineering capabilities. We are looking for a motivated scientist with expertise in analytical chemistry and mass spectrometry to join our Structural Characterization team. The candidate will be part of a highly collaborative, multi-disciplinary team contributing to the development of new therapeutics of various modalities. The ideal candidate will have background and experience on liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, protein chemistry and spectroscopy techniques, strong problem-solving ability, and the ability to work with cross-functional teams. 

 

Responsibilities: 

The primary responsibility of this role is to apply cutting-edge mass spectrometry techniques to characterize various therapeutic modalities, such as antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates, antibody-oligonucleotide conjugates, peptides, oligonucleotides, co-formulation products and gene and cell therapies. The candidate will join a state-of-the-art structural characterization group where they will apply broad scientific knowledge and laboratory skills to provide LC-MS support for drug development activities at all stages and across the diverse platform pipeline. 

 

Key Objectives/Deliverables: 

  • Independently plan and execute protein characterization tests using LC-MS and ensure timely delivery of characterization data. 

  • Document data in laboratory notebook, author/review technical reports and contribute to regulatory filings. 

  • Present data to characterization team, project team, and other co-workers. 

  • Maintain and trouble-shoot laboratory instruments. 

  • Evaluate, develop, and implement new characterization techniques and instrumentation. 

  • Engage with scientists across Eli Lilly’s Discovery, Development and Manufacturing organizations to tackle problems using protein characterization techniques.
