Examples of duties
Under the general direction of the Solid Waste Services Director, the Resource Recovery Coordinator leads efforts to extend landfill life by coordinating resource recovery initiatives, including waste reduction, reuse, and recycling. The primary purpose is to educate residents on the importance of preserving landfill airspace and promoting effective resource recovery practices. The Resource Recovery Coordinator works with Municipal departments, advisory commissions, environmental and recycling organizations, the public, and the Anchorage School District (ASD) to support children’s education programs. This includes classroom presentations,facility tours, and engagement through the ASD School Business Partnership, including hosting a high school intern. The position also collaborates with the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) to strengthen partnerships, including opportunities for engineering student internships. The position plans and manages events such as electronics and other targeted collection efforts and pilots new resource recovery initiatives while exploring potential revenue opportunities that support Solid Waste Services’ long-term, sustainable business model. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and nine (9) years of experience conducting research, investigations, litigation, report writing, program management, and/or program support.
OR
Associate’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Accounting or a similar discipline and seven (7) years of experience conducting research, investigations, litigation, report writing, program management, and/or program support.
OR
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Political Science, Accounting or a similar discipline and five (5) years of experience conducting research, investigations, litigation, report writing, program management, and/or program support.
OR
Master’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Accounting or a similar discipline and three (3) years of experience conducting research, investigations, litigation, report writing, program management, and/or program support.

Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.
Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License and satisfactory Driving Record at time of hire.
