Job Duties

Supervise adult probationers, conduct investigations, and document activities. The position is located in the Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) northern pay band area and the hiring range listed includes a $4,000 pay differential associated with this District Office.  $5,000.00 Sign on bonus for eligible new hires.

Minimum Qualifications

Social casework and treatment methods/therapies; personality types, human behavioral tendencies, and socio-economic group characteristics; grammar, composition, report writing, and information gathering; and presentation techniques. Counsel people and intervene in crises; assist probationer(s) to develop and attain goals; organize, summarize, and present information orally and in writing; manage time and prioritize work assignments to meet required time frames; gather, collate, and record information from personal interviews and written requests. Interact positively with probationers, colleagues, supervisors, the public, and community resource personnel; execute and follow through on probationers’ supervision plans and personal work assignments; give and receive guidance and instructions; process, analyze, and interpret written and oral information; initiate independent actions and carry out assignments with minimal supervision. Valid Driver’s License.

Additional Considerations

Completed the required academy courses for a sex offender supervision specialist. Knowledge of Evidenced Based Practices, current sex offender treatment methodology, and knowledgeable of the post-conviction sex offender polygraph. Major course work in Sociology/Psychology/Criminology/Rehabilitative Counseling or a related field.
