The Department of Economic Security, Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD), is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). DDD provides individuals with developmental disabilities, and their families, services and supports that are flexible, high quality, and member driven. These services provide individuals with opportunities to exercise their rights and responsibilities of independent decision-making and engagement in the community.
Applicants for this position cannot be licensed or certified by the DDD Office of Licensing Certification and Regulation, cannot have a principal interest in or have a spouse or close family with principal interest in a DDD Qualified Vendor Agreement, and cannot be employed or subcontracted by a DDD Qualified Vendor.
Job Duties:Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Performs medical testing. Performs nursing assessments in conjunction with the RN in emergency care. Performs routine nursing care, vital signs. Obtains and processes lab specimens. Maintains on ground communication to coordinate healthcare with RN.
• Receives and reconciles pharmacy deliveries ensuring that the medications match the orders. Delivers and accounts for medications delivered to the homes. Completes orders for supplies reorders. Assist with physician clinic.
• Completes documentation in client's files and health records/forms in compliance with Health Services directives.
• Trains staff on health status of individuals, medical testing, discharge expectations, etc.
• Administers medications, injections, special treatments.
Knowledge in:
• Intermediate Care Facilities for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF/ID) and State Licensing requirements.
• Agency and Division State-Operated Services policy and procedures
• Proper nursing documentation
• Member condition and medical/physical changing care needs.
• Medication administration practices
Skills In:
• Providing appropriate treatment in emergency situations
• Making nursing judgment and effective problem solving
• Interpersonal communication
• Developing, analyzing and implementing treatment care plans and documenting properly.
• Time management
Ability to:
• Listen, observe, assess and respond to medical emergencies
• Make independent decisions regarding member health problems
• Present training material in a clear and precise manner
• Respond to medical issues/inquiries in professional manner
• Work with professional and non-professional staff to ensure health and safety of individuals
The ideal candidate for this position will have:
• At least 1 years’ experience in providing professional hands-on nursing services to individuals with developmental disabilities and at least 1 year of experience in professional community nursing.
