*This is a part-time Other Personnel Service (OPS) Environmental Specialist position working with the Department of Health in Lee County.*
This $20-22 per hour, 28 hours per week, part-time Environmental Specialist position performs duties under the direction of the Environmental Supervisor within the Environmental Health and Engineering Section of the Florida Department of Health in Lee County.
The primary focus areas for the incumbent will start with training to perform quality assurance inspections and enforcement in the following areas:

- Sanitary Complaints Investigation
- Annual assessments of Aerobic Treatment Units (Advanced Septic Systems)
- Verification of Septic System Abandonments
Additional training and experience will follow, in the programs listed below, as priorities allow:

- Biomedical Waste
- Body Art/Body Piercing & Tattooing
- Group Care
- Migrant Farmworker Housing
- Mobile Home/RV Parks
- Tanning
- Food Hygiene
- Sanitary Complaints and Legal Enforcement
- Public Swimming Pool Inspections
- Onsite Treatment and Disposal Systems
- Public Drinking Water Systems
- Limited Use Drinking Water Systems
- Non-Community Drinking Water Systems
- Well Surveillance (SuperACT)
- Healthy Beaches program
- Harmful Algal Bloom Monitoring and Tracking
These inspections protect public health by regulating and enforcing best practices, which in turn reduce the public’s exposure to disease and injury.
