Job Summary
Responsible for using a special type of x-ray equipment to measure bone mineral density at a specific anatomical site (usually the wrist, heel, spine or hip) or to calculate total body bone mineral content.Essential Functions-Prepares patients for procedures by explaining procedure processes, answering patient questions and coordinating schedule issues.
-Performs scans, reviews findings to determine appropriate tests and recommends alternative scan sites.
-Oversees lab operation and maintenance of densitometer, computer equipment and patient records.
-Coordinates with pharmaceutical companies on the specifics of protocols and recordkeeping.
-Conducts scans using the knowledge and performance of systematic deviations from established clinical protocols.
-Ensures the proper maintenance and cleanliness of the laboratory; maintains stocks and supplies.
Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent required and Trade/Technical/Vocational Diploma Radiologic Technology required or Associate's Degree Radiologic Technology preferred

Licenses and Credentials
Registered Technologist [ARRT-R] - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) preferred Bone Densitometry [ARRT-BD] - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) preferred
Experience
Hospital/Clinical Setting Experience 0-1 year required and Radiological Experience 1-2 years required and Densitometrist Experience 1-2 years preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledgeable in radiologic technology, other therapies and modalities as well as bone densitometrist.
- Ability to operate sophisticated computer equipment.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to interact compassionately and effectively with patients and their families.
- Ability to perform well independently.
