Job Duties:
The PERT Program of the Career and Workforce Development Division (CWDD) at Wilson Workforce and Rehabilitation Center (WWRC) is seeking a Campus Life Associate. The individual in these positions will be responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment in which to live and learn; fostering an interdisciplinary team approach across the Campus Life Division and the entire WWRC campus; providing appropriate documentation according to center and departmental standards; performing other program duties as assigned; and completing duties and/or projects as needed or directed by the supervisor.
This position is designated to provide first aid, CPR, and AED only as a collateral duty to routine work assignments, responding solely to injuries resulting from workplace incidents, generally at the location where the incident occurred, until emergency personnel arrive on the scene. The incumbent understands that pre-exposure hepatitis B vaccination is not being provided, but that post-exposure hepatitis B vaccination will be provided, and they will complete annual blood-borne pathogens training in accordance with the OSHA standard.
Minimum Qualifications:
KSA’s and/or Competencies required to successfully perform the work:
Knowledge of: characteristics of adolescent and adult behaviors and positive intervention techniques; characteristics of diverse disabilities and implications for residential programming; needs of youth with disabilities and their families in the transition from school-to-work; and group dynamics, confidentiality and boundary issues, safety awareness in a residential/dormitory setting, recreation hall environment for coverage as needed, good basic computer skills.
Demonstrated skills in: application of positive intervention strategies to challenging behaviors which may be presented in a residential setting; use of appropriate behavioral responses in emergency situations; client-focused advocacy; and effective oral and written communication; assessing individual and group needs and ability to plan and implement programs to meet those needs, some knowledge and skill in providing recreational activities in a residential environment.
Demonstrated abilities to: anticipate and respond immediately to individual and group crisis/emergency situations; enforce disciplinary measures while retaining respect and confidence from participants and /WWRC staff; lead recreational and independent living activities; balance workload responsibilities with competing organizational priorities; and complete work assignments both independently and as an effective team member.
This position works a schedule that combines day and evening on a rotating basis, dependent on when participants are on campus and in consideration of identified resource and coverage needs.
Valid VA Driver’s License required
Additional Considerations:
Training in principles and techniques of residential programming and/or behavior intervention techniques.
Fitness Instruction Certification, Lifeguarding, Coaching (team or individual) certification.
