About the role

JCC Greater Boston is seeking a motivated and passionate individual for the LGBTQ+ Family & Community Programs Position. In this role, you would be responsible for developing and implementing programs and initiatives that promote inclusivity and support LGBTQ+ families and community members. You would work closely with diverse stakeholders and organizations to create a welcoming and supportive environment for individuals of all backgrounds. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the LGBTQ+ community in the Greater Boston area.

The Family & Community Programs professional will create connections with the LGBTQ+ community through a variety of channels, both in-person and virtual, which may include one-on-one parent conversations, holiday celebrations, parent workshops, parent only programs and more. This person is an integral member of the Family Engagement & Jewish Life (FEJL) team that provides family programs throughout Greater Boston.  

This role will also oversee the JCC PFLAG support group for parents of trans and non-binary children. This includes providing support for the volunteer facilitators, identifying and recruiting additional facilitators as needed, interfacing with Greater Boston PFLAG,  and providing follow-up programs as needed.

The starting salary for this position is $23.05 - $25.50/hr. The scope of the position will ultimately determine the salary offered, the candidate’s relevant experience, and internal equity. This is a part-time 10 hours per week position.

Responsibilities & Duties

    • Create strategies to identify, welcome, and build trusting relationships with current and new families through one-on-one conversations, friendship facilitation, and community-building programs and activities
    • Plan, develop, and implement programs and initiatives that promote inclusion and support for LGBTQ+ families and community members. This may include workshops, support groups, social events, and educational programs.
    • Collect parent input through a variety of tools as a guide to design, implement, and evaluate programs
    • Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all individuals by providing support and resources to LGBTQ+ individuals and families.
    • Oversee the JCC PFLAG group, including support of volunteer facilitators and maintaining excellent relationships with Greater Boston PFLAG
    • Promote programs through social media, parent connections, community events, local business relationships, and other relevant channels
    • Stay up-to-date on current trends and issues related to LGBTQ+ communities and implement best practices in program development and delivery.
    • Identify and cultivate strategic community and programmatic partnerships within the Jewish and secular communities to expand the reach of LGBTQ+ programs and services
    • Develop and maintain relationships with LGBTQ+ community leaders, organizations, and allies.
    • Collaborate with FEJL and other JCC Greater Boston departments to integrate LGBTQ+ programming throughout the organization.
    • Administer tasks related to project management, registration, program budgeting, data gathering, record keeping, and other job responsibilities
    • Meet regularly with the program manager

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in human services or related field, and at least 3 years experience in program/event design and implementation, community organizing/building, and working with families (parents and children 0-8 years old). Experience must display:

    • a history of strong connections with the LGBTQ+ community
    • a commitment to furthering the support and services of families and their children,
    • developing and implementing creative and engaging programming that is accessible/low barrier and welcoming to all.

 An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted at the JCC’s discretion to meet minimum criteria.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Must display social media fluency and proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel
  • Creative ability to translate ideas, feedback, and data into innovative and meaningful experiences that meet the needs of families, parents, and children.
