POSITION SUMMARY:  

Provide assistance to senior underwriters in underwriting of contacts of insurance in accordance with department standards and agreed underwriting authority. This position also entails visiting brokers and clients on a continuous basis to build and maintain positive working relationships.

How you will create an impact:

  • Assist underwriters in completing rating analysis using proprietary models and tools to support the underwriting decision making process.
  • Prepare data for use in commercial catastrophe models using MS Access, Excel, SQL and other proprietary tools and software.
  • Use commercial catastrophe risk models (primarily RMS – RiskLink) to support underwriting activities.
  • Review policy terms and conditions and identify potential issues to be discussed with brokers.
  • Communicate with brokers on assigned accounts regarding terms/conditions/pricing
  • Identify potential accumulations with other accounts and monitor CAT aggregate accumulations.
  • Prepare authorizations and present them for underwriter approval and transmittal to brokers.
  • Monitor progress on authorizations for new and renewal business.
  • Review and process endorsement requests that come in during the policy term.
  • Maintain and organize account files according to department standards.
  • Help promote the development of new business by visiting brokers and presenting our capabilities.
  • Report as required at weekly and monthly underwriting meetings and other forums as requested.
  • Act in accordance with all regulatory standards and principles at all times.
  • Other duties as required.

What you will need to succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Business Administration or related field.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel and Access) and Microsoft SQL; knowledge of commercial catastrophe models is preferred.
  • Ability to deal effectively and courteously with clients and colleagues, and to exercise discretion and confidentiality in all matters.
  • Self-motivated, has superior attention to detail, and can work with minimal daily supervision.
  • Excellent analytical, reasoning, and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to review policy wording.
  • Ability to represent TALBOT US and its underwriting philosophy.
  • Thorough knowledge of the underwriting process and familiarity with the reinsurance environment.
  • Proven organizational and timekeeping skills and a strong sense of attention to detail.
