Data Scientist
StriveworksAbout the role
The Role
As a Data Scientist on the Striveworks Technical Engagements team you will be challenged—and trusted—on day one to be a core contributor to the projects and direction of the company. You will be a key Striveworks representative and solutions provider to project sites and customers where Chariot is deployed. You will be leading and working alongside a team of data scientists, software engineers, and site reliability engineers to transform machine learning models into functional products.
You will use your expertise to integrate and apply the Striveworks platform, and leverage it to rapidly prototype and deliver machine learning capabilities for our customers through custom algorithms and software. You will tackle real-world problems as they unfold, utilizing your technical expertise and communication skills to provide reliable and scalable solutions.
You are right for this challenge if you:
- Value and possess technical expertise and you push the boundaries of your own capabilities;
- Are outcome-driven, not requirements-driven, and appreciate creative problem solving;
- Know that customer-facing activities, technical communications, and time management skills are all important;
- Are passionate about the intersection of Data Science and operational needs.
This role both allows and requires flexibility in work location. At times, you will be tasked with on-site, sporadic travel to customer locations. At other times, you can be based in our Austin, Texas headquarters, or in a remote location.
Potential projects include:
- Development of machine learning models and custom algorithms on image, video, text, geospatial, time-series, and/or tabular data sets
- Orchestration and automation of complex data engineering and analytic pipelines
- Implementation of and integration with modern event-driven and microservices architectures
- Everything as Code
- Implement and deploy production analytics into cloud environments
- Opportunity to conduct mission-critical field work
The Right Fit
We spend a lot of time in our hiring process talking about shared values, because we passionately believe that fostering an environment where people can self-actualize and pursue greatness is the best way to achieve our individual and collective goals. What does this mean? We want an environment where our team members persevere relentlessly to achieve their goals. We want an environment where team members know the team has the same goals, and they make and accept decisions for the team with humility. If your say/do ratio is 1, if you know that there is no smartest person in the room, then we’re already on the same page.
Here's what else we are looking for:
- Expertise in machine learning and data science
- Expertise in modern analytic toolsets such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-Learn, Pandas, NumPy, or similar.
- Strong previous experience in building and delivering production analytics
- Proficiency in algorithms, data structures, and design patterns
- Proficiency in with Python
- Exposure to DevOps tooling and best practices (e.g., Git, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD)
- Familiarity with database design and architecture: relational and non-relational
- Driven, self-directed personality
- Strong sense of mission and commitment to making a difference
- B.S. degree in mathematics, physics, engineering, machine learning, computer science, or a related discipline, machine learning, or a related discipline; and 4+ years relevant experience
- Active Top Secret security clearance
- Able and willing to travel up to 20% (project dependent; some projects require far less travel)
The Wish List
We are very interested in Data Scientists that possess the above qualifications, and heavily appreciate and consider the addition of:
- Exposure to graphical user interface (GUI) design concepts
- Experience with ETL pipelines, data pipelines, and/or workflow automation
- Exposure to one or more cloud architectures
- Understanding of JavaScript frameworks such as React, Vue, or Angular
- Experience using RESTful or GraphQL APIs
- Understanding of synchronous, asynchronous, and concurrent programming
- Understanding of networked and distributed computing
- Knowledge of messaging systems such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar
The Tech Stack
We believe in constant curiosity and peer-driven learning. As a Data Scientist for Engagements at Striveworks, you will learn about— or teach— the latest software technologies and processes, participate in open-source projects, and take part in pair programming. You will be able
