Belong. Connect. Grow. with KBR!

KBR’s National Security Solutions team provides high-end engineering and advanced technology solutions to our customers in the intelligence and national security communities. In this position, your work will have a profound impact on the country’s most critical role – protecting our national security.

KBR is seeking a Telecommunications Subject Matter Expert to support a Government program focused on secure, resilient, and high-performance mission communications. This role involves designing, integrating, and optimizing telecommunications systems, including antennas for RF and SATCOM links, terrestrial transport, and IP-based networks supporting space and ground operations. The SME will provide technical leadership in antenna selection, placement, and performance analysis to ensure reliable connectivity across multiple classification domains. Responsibilities include advising government stakeholders on architecture trade-offs, risk mitigation, and lifecycle sustainment for mission-critical voice, data, and transport services. The position requires proactive collaboration, detailed technical documentation, and disciplined execution in a zero-downtime mission environment.

Why Join Us?

  • Innovative Projects: KBR’s work is at the forefront of engineering, logistics, operations, science, program management, mission IT and cybersecurity solutions.

  • Collaborative Environment: Be part of a dynamic team that thrives on collaboration and innovation, fostering a supportive and intellectually stimulating workplace.

  • Impactful Work: Your contributions will be pivotal in designing and optimizing defense systems that ensure national security and shape the future of space defense.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, analyze, and optimize telecommunications systems, including RF/SATCOM antennas, terrestrial transport, and IP network architectures for mission-critical operations.

  • Perform antenna performance modeling, link budget analysis, and propagation studies to ensure reliable connectivity under operational constraints.

  • Lead integration and acceptance testing for antenna systems and associated telecom components; develop test plans and document results for government approval.

  • Ensure compliance with DoD/IC standards, interoperability requirements, and cryptographic integration for secure communications.

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, ICDs, CONOPS, and antenna configuration baselines.

  • Execute lifecycle sustainment plans, including antenna maintenance, tech refresh, and obsolescence management.

  • Conduct troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for antenna and telecom system failures; implement corrective actions.

  • Support readiness reviews, risk assessments, and engineering change proposals; provide cost/schedule/technical trade studies.

  • Coordinate with satellite, ground systems, and network teams to deliver integrated end-to-end communications solutions.

  • Provide training and mentorship on antenna systems and telecom best practices to operations and engineering personnel.

  • Active/Current TS/SCI with Poly required.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Engineering, or related STEM field.

  • 4–6 years of telecommunications engineering/operations experience.

  • Mission Experience: Prior experience supporting Customer space/ground communications programs, including procurement of terrestrial comms, antenna integration and multi-domain interoperability.

  • Technical: Hands-on experience with antenna systems (RF/SATCOM), link budget analysis, and at least one additional domain such as IP routing/switching, optical transport, or SD-WAN.

  • Tools/Standards: Demonstrated use of telecom analysis tools (e.g., spectrum analyzers, link budget calculators) and compliance with DoD/IC standards (e.g., CNSSI, NIST).

Desired:

  • Certifications: CCNP/CCNA, JNCIP/JNCIS, or SATCOM/antenna vendor certifications (e.g., iDirect, GVF).
