About the role

JOB SUMMARY

 

The Senior Manager, Category Management and Sourcing – Marketing is responsible for category management and strategic sourcing for Marriott’s Global Procurement Department with a specific focus on the Marketing Category. This role will support the development and execution of category strategies across marketing verticals including media, creative, production, experiential, partnerships, print, influencers, and others. The Senior Manager drives adherence to and communication of Marriott procurement policies and processes to the Marketing, Brand and Loyalty disciplines and other stakeholders, serves as a point of escalation for issues, delivers effective communications at all levels (including to executive leadership), and leads cross-functional teams on marketing procurement initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in marketing category management, agency ecosystem optimization, media contract negotiation and marketing supplier governance. The role requires strong collaboration with internal stakeholders to align marketing procurement strategies with brand and campaign goals. The ideal candidate will have experience in marketing procurement, agency management, and strategic sourcing within a matrixed organization.

   

CANDIDATE PROFILE 

Education and Experience 

Required

  • BA/BS
  • 5+ years category management experience, with at least 3 years focused on the marketing category in a the hospitality or other consumer-facing sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to create marketing strategy and implement change while working in a geographically dispersed team in a highly matrixed cross-discipline environment.

Preferred

  • Master’s in business administration or Juris Doctor
  • Marketing consulting experience

 

CORE WORK ACTIVITIES 

  • Act as a procurement business partner to Global Marketing, Brand and Loyalty disciplines, providing guidance on marketing category management, strategic sourcing, policy and risk management.
  • Support the development and execution of category strategies for marketing services, including media, creative, production, experiential, partnerships, print, influencers, and others
  • Align procurement and strategic sourcing strategies with company and discipline priorities and brand and campaign objectives.
  • Monitor category spend and market trends to identify sourcing opportunities and mitigate risks in the marketing supply base; identify cost take-out levers for stakeholder consideration, including competitive sourcing, demand management, insourcing vs outsourcing, specification change, process change, and governance improvement.
  • Assist in consolidating and rationalizing marketing suppliers to improve efficiency, cost, and brand alignment, including creative and media agency rosters.
  • Contribute to the negotiation of large-scale marketing supplier agreements, ensuring improved transparency, performance metrics, and cost efficiency.
  • Develop deep knowledge of Marriott’s Media Agency of Record agreement and assist in implementing governance with the supplier and stakeholders to maximize benefits from negotiated pricing and terms.
  • Manage supplier relationships and performance for marketing suppliers, ensuring quality, compliance, and value delivery.
  • Develop timelines and organize cross-functional teams to implement sourcing strategies and initiatives, including end-to-end ownership of competitive sourcing events for major marketing procurement initiatives.
  • Utilize effective internal tracking mechanisms and measurements to monitor the competitive bidding process.
  • Leverage strong analytical and communication skills to manage all aspects of competitive bids, including analyzing and scoring multiple proposals, creating corresponding business cases (including financial reports), and presenting clear and concise summaries of recommended options.
  • Utilize training programs and awareness initiatives to ensure procurement teams and stakeholders understand and adhere to policies and governance frameworks.
  • Consistently utilize governance mechanisms for supplier onboarding, performance management, and contract compliance.
  • Ensure marketing procurement strategies align with corporate sustainability goals, ethical sourcing standards, and supplier diversity initiatives.

 

 

The salary range for this position is $108,300 to $170,000 annually. Marriott offers
