The Level 2 Industrial Maintenance Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring proper maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery within the organization. Under minimum supervision, the Level 2 Industrial Maintenance Technician performs work of intermediate difficulty in the various skilled trades, including, but not limited to, machine maintenance and repair, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, painting, electrical and plant layout, inside and outside of the various JELD-WEN production plants and facilities.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Equipment maintenance – Conduct routine and preventive maintenance of equipment and machinery to identify signs of wear, damage, or malfunction. Report any issues promptly to the supervisor or lead technician.
- Repairs and Troubleshooting – Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, using advanced problem-solving skills. Performs repairs, adjustments and component replacements as needed. Ensures proper maintenance of machinery, mechanical equipment, or the structure of any JELD-WEN facility.
- Replaces wires, electrical receptacles, fixtures, and motors. Performs basic plumbing work in replacing and repairing sinks, water coolers, toilets and other plumbing fixtures.
- Repairs wood or concrete floors, steps, stairs, and sidewalks.
- Replaces damaged paneling and floor tiles, hang doors, installs door locks, and replaces broken windowpanes.
- Repairs items using welding and machining tools.
- Calibration and Alignment – Calibrate equipment and ensure proper alignment to maintain accuracy and efficiency. Utilize precision instruments and tools for calibration tasks. Report any issues with tools or equipment upon discovery to the supervisor.
- Safety – Follow all safety protocols and guidelines while performing maintenance tasks. Report any safety hazards or concerns to the supervisor immediately.
- Maintains the machinery and equipment in a clean, orderly, and operational condition while following prescribed safety regulations. Conforms with safety regulations per plant policies and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines. This includes but is not limited to, the use of safety glasses, ear plugs, masks, steel-toed boots/shoes, and associated safety equipment to be on the plant floor and maintain and repair the machinery and equipment and perform the job duties in a safe and efficient/effective manner.
- Documentation – Maintain comprehensive records of maintenance activities, including work orders, inspections, repairs, parts used and time spent on repairs. Complete maintenance checklist and report as required. Maintains inventory of maintenance supplies and tools and notifies supervisor when to reorder.
- Training and Development – Participate in training and on-the-job learning opportunities to enhance work-related technical skills. Seek guidance and mentorship from experienced and authorized maintenance technicians. Provide guidance and mentorship to Level 1 technicians.
- Cleanliness and organization – Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including maintenance shops and storage spaces. Ensure tools and equipment are properly stored after each use.
- Root Cause Analysis – Investigate equipment failures and perform root cause analysis to prevent recurring issues. Recommend process improvements to enhance equipment reliability.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Experience in machinery repair and maintenance, electrical work, carpentry, painting, plumbing, masonry, and plant layout.
- Must be able to detect, report and make repairs to defective machinery and equipment.
- Experience in the ability to read and comprehend basic verbal and written instructions, read and interpret drawings, blueprints, sketches, instructions and specifications.
- Must be willing to accept and receive frequent training and supervision and assistance from Maintenance II and III positions, and supervisory personnel.
- Must have good communication skills and be able to communicate with many levels of personnel effectively and tactfully in a variety of situations and environments.
- Must be able to work in a team-oriented environment.
