- Provide strategic leadership and direction to the payroll team across all business units.
- Build and develop a high-performing payroll team through training, mentorship, and performance management.
- Partner closely with HR, Finance, Compliance, and Operations to ensure alignment on payroll practices and organizational goals.
- Assess current systems and processes; identify and implement opportunities for improvement, automation, and scalability.
- Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for all employees, including bi-weekly, semi-monthly, and off-cycle payrolls.
- Ensure payroll accuracy and timeliness for a workforce consisting of hourly, per diem, salaried, and per-visit employees.
- Maintain and enforce internal controls to safeguard payroll data and ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate year-end activities including W-2 processing, 1099s, and tax filings.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations including wage parity, overtime, IRS guidelines, and labor laws.
- Stay current on changes in payroll legislation and communicate implications to executive leadership.
- Manage relationships with external vendors (e.g., payroll systems, tax services, timekeeping platforms).
- Prepare for and lead payroll audits as needed.
- Serve as the internal owner and subject matter expert for payroll systems (e.g., Workday, ADP, Paycom—insert actual system).
- Ensure system configuration supports accurate pay calculations and compliance requirements.
- Generate payroll-related reporting and analytics for Finance and executive leadership.
- Develop KPIs to measure team performance, payroll accuracy, processing time, and compliance adherence.
QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required; Master’s degree or CPP certification preferred.
- Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive experience in payroll leadership, with at least 3 years in a senior/director-level role overseeing multi-state payroll.
- Experience in the healthcare industry, particularly home health or behavioral health, highly preferred.
- Deep knowledge of wage and hour laws, wage parity, union contracts, and payroll tax regulations.
- Demonstrated experience with payroll system implementations, upgrades, and process redesign.
- Strong analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in payroll systems (e.g., Workday, ADP) and Microsoft Excel.
