About the role

ABOUT THE ROLE 

Peloton is looking for a strategic, collaborative, and dynamic leader with 10+ years of experience in the media industry, particularly legal and business affairs, to join our Legal team to support Peloton’s global content, music and marketing strategy. This position requires a thorough understanding of Peloton’s multifaceted business, including its development, production and distribution of content, and an ability to work seamlessly with both dealmakers, talent, and creatives. As the leader of the Media & Marketing Legal, you will oversee a team of legal professionals in the structuring and negotiation of a wide variety of agreements, from music licensing and production agreements, to talent releases and marketing campaigns, working closely with cross-functional business partners to create efficiencies, minimize risk, and strategize on our brand and music licensing deals. You will also advise on Content business matters, working closely with executives and business partners to put deals into place and advise on development of the processes to support the business function, including clearance and standards guidance to shape best practices.

YOUR DAILY IMPACT AT PELOTON 

  • Serve as the senior legal advisor to executives in the Content and Marketing functions, offering new and innovative approaches to existing structures, opportunities for expansion of Peloton’s original content offerings, and structuring partnerships that expand Peloton’s reach to new Members and content partners. 
  • Oversee the origination, negotiation and management of a wide variety of complex third party agreements, with a specific focus on content production and distribution, music licensing, creative partnerships, and talent agreements.  
  • Advise marketing executives and creatives on legal issues and risk management strategies related to brand and product marketing campaigns, customer acquisition strategies, advertising and sales technologies, promotional activities, and marketing collaborations. 
  • Provide strategic support for cross-functional initiatives centered on Peloton’s content and/or marketing endeavors, leading your team to serve as the central hub for collection and synthesis of input from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Partner with business functions and IP specialists to establish, manage, and develop a creative approach to dynamic rights management and exploitation strategy that accounts for the strategic use of Peloton and third party content (e.g., music) within and outside of Peloton’s service offerings, including:
    • rights clearance guidance that tracks industry best practices, 
    • music license deal making, deal tracking, reporting, and audit procedures, and
    • internal and external talent rights management processes.
  • Evangelize the adoption of these processes and forge an understanding of these strategies among relevant legal and business functions. 

YOU BRING TO PELOTON

  • 10+ years’ experience in a relevant legal field (in-house experience strongly preferred).
  • Experience in content production and distribution (required), with a working knowledge of music licensing and proficiency in other aspects of a media-centric business.
  • Strong command of global intellectual property, regulatory, and other legal principles that impact media companies and marketing departments, experience with subscription businesses is a plus.
  • Experience in building, managing, and motivating a team of legal and/or business affairs professionals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to influence from the individual contributor level up to the C-suite.  
  • Superior critical thinking skills, with a bias for action and confidence to make informed decisions that have both legal and business implications. 
  • Member in good standing of the NY or comparable State Bar.

Base Salary: $318,500.00  to $414,000.00

The base salary range represents the low and high end of the anticipated salary range for this position based at our New York City headquarters. The actual base salary offered for this position will depend on numerous factors including individual performance, business objectives, and if the location for the job changes.
