Box Truck Driver - (No CDL needed)

Description

Planet Aid is a nonprofit organization that collects and recycles used textiles to protect the environment and support sustainable development in impoverished communities around the world is seeking a full-time, Driver III. Reporting to the Operations Manager.

Schedule: Full-time, Weekdays

The Driver III position is responsible for driving trucks of multiple sizes up to 24/ 26-foot box trucks and trailers. The Driver III will be transporting material from host locations to Planet Aid Business Units; the driver will service the sites and routes provided by Planet Aid. Once the route is determined, the driver will be responsible for collecting all bagged and loose clothes and shoes in and around the bins. The driver will also be responsible for the proper maintenance of the sites which includes cleaning and collecting all the external rubbish disposed in and around the bins.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other responsibilities may be assigned):

· Demonstrate safe/efficient driving skills, driving trucks of multiple sizes up to 24/ 26-foot box trucks, and trailers

· Comply with Federal, State, and local laws and guidelines 

· Possess good customer service skills and be able to communicate verbally with customers in a professional manner

· Service the donation bins designated on a route daily 

· Empty the donation bin, clean and collect other rubbish disposed of in and around the bins 

· Place, replace, and move bins at site locations 

· Communicate with management regarding any problems, issues, or safety precautions taken 

· Must be prepared and flexible to perform associated and related job functions that are not specifically identified in this job description

Requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School Degree and 2 years of driving small commercial trucks: or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret maps and GPS technology. Complete paperwork accurately and completely and understand the importance of detail. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, supervisors and employees. Must be able to read, speak, write and understand Basic English.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

• Pass a pre-employment drug screening, background check, and a DOT physical
• Have a good driving record without major incidents that meets Planet Aid’s insurability standard
• Adhere to and enforce all safety procedures
• Flexibility to work overtime and weekend hours when requested to meet business needs
• Demonstrate safe driving skills
• Capable of operating a large box truck in the congested Metropolitan areas
• Prepared to work in any traffic or weather conditions according to the pickup locations.
• Follow directions and possess a "can do" attitude.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is required to drive for a sustained period of time (within DOT standards). The employee is required to stand for a long period of time. The employee is frequently required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is regularly required to push up to 300 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
