Our people division is growing, and we are looking for a Senior Underground Mining Engineer to join the Carlin Underground Projects Team (UPT).  The UPT group is newly formed and building out its project pipeline across UG development of new mines and zones within operating mines; and infrastructure to support the UG operations. This position will actively engage with all three3 underground operations in Carlin to assist across many facets of each operation. The UPT team coordinates with the Carlin UG operations in numerous aspects. We help delineate Capital Projects and assist with AFE approvals, manage execution and operational readiness handovers of Capital Projects to mine sites, and oversee the Rapid Development team. The UPT group is newly formed and building out its project pipeline across UG development of new mines and zones within operating mines and infrastructure to support the UG operations.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope

  • Generate rolling financial, project, construction, production, and work force forecasts that align with strategic objectives and validate with site-based teams

  • Perform work which involves conventional engineering practice but includes a variety of complex features, such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of standard materials, and difficult coordination requirements

  • Manage detailed engineering work involved with development projects, including but not limited to: 

    • Drill and blast design and reconciliation

    • Long- and short-range design execution

    • Long- and short-range development forecasts

    • Ventilation audits and efficiency suggestions

    • Infrastructure design and coordination with host site

  • Responsible for managing junior engineers across projects and foster teamwork and unity across the UPT team and Site Technical teams

  • Responsible for Month end cost review, accounting and analysis across all UPT projects

  • Assist in the development of maintenance of financial models

  • Assist in the review, generation, presentation, and tracking of AFE documents and projects

  • Generate and maintain benchmarking KPI’s to validate UPT execution against other regional development contracting groups

  • Foster collaboration and coordination between the UPT group, UG operations and Capital Projects teams

  • Execute in the development and sustainability of the UPT group through development contracts growth and project studies pipeline audits

  • The above duties and responsibilities are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all-inclusive

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Minimum requirement: B.S. degree in Engineering and five years of experience in Underground Mining required

  • Ventilation experience preferred

  • Minimum two years of mine design and scheduling required

  • Minimum two years of Project Management or execution experience required

  • Technical communication and presentation skills required

  • Expert knowledge in engineering and design required
