OVERVIEW 

 

The Community Outreach and Education Coordinator will conduct national outreach to develop relationships with key stakeholders who may encounter unaccompanied children after their release from the Office of Refugee and Resettlement (ORR) custody. The coordinator will develop relationships with service providers, educators, child welfare, law enforcement and anti-trafficking task forces to advocate for and provide education about the needs of unaccompanied children. The position reports to the Senior Community Outreach and Education Coordinator.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

  • Provide national, regional, and targeted local community outreach and education with community service providers to improve outcomes for unaccompanied children; 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external organizations/subject matter experts on a regional and local level for technical assistance and collaboration;  
  • Design and facilitate educational workshops and presentations with external stakeholders (for example, school personnel, law enforcement, child welfare workers) on the rights and needs of unaccompanied children as well as other special topics (e.g., educational rights, child trafficking, trauma-informed best practices, etc.); 
  • Collaborate with USCRI partner agencies and other organizations to coordinate support and share best practices, challenges, and areas of need regarding community outreach; 
  • Coordinate, develop, and participate in professional working groups with regional stakeholders; 
  • Develop and coordinate meetings for youth council/advisory board to inform USCRI Children’s Services programmatic decisions and build youth leadership skills; 
  • Design and facilitate public-facing life-skills webinars for children and families in Spanish; 
  • Plan and develop e-learning content to be used to develop courses for the Unaccompanied Children Resource Center website;  
  • Contribute to an online library of resources and tools to support learning goals and needs of social service providers working with unaccompanied children;   
  • Execute a project plan for community outreach and education efforts within assigned region; 
  • Conduct needs assessments with HS/PRS staff, external providers, and families to identify stakeholders and parties for community outreach/education; 
  • Maintain data on development and outreach activities; 
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a behavioral science, education, or social services field with at least three years’ experience in child welfare, case management, and working with immigrant children; 
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills; 
  • Prior experience in facilitating workshops and presentations is required; 
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically proficiency with Word, Power Point, Publisher, and Excel is required; 
  • Fluency in Spanish is required; proficiency in additional languages a plus; 
  • Demonstrated experience partnering with and providing training, guidance, and support to community-based organizations and other institutions;  
  • Experience facilitating community groups preferred;  
  • Strong technology skills and willingness/ability to utilize various platforms; 
  • Strict adherence to timeframes, policy, and procedure; 
  • Ability to prioritize duties and multi-task in a fast-paced environment; 
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team; 
  • Ability to track and analyze data; 
  • Position is remote and the candidate must have an appropriate workspace to complete documentation, phone calls, and video conferencing;
