About the role

Salary Range: $62,880-$78,627   Posting Expires: October 15, 2024   The City of Atlanta Department of Aviation (DOA) is seeking a highly skilled Sustainability Policy Analyst to join our dynamic Sustainability team. The Sustainability Policy Analyst researches and reviews legislative matters related to sustainability, and disseminates research findings orally and in writing. This is a fully seasoned skilled level capable of independently carrying out most assignments typical of the discipline. The analyst helps to ensure the Department of Aviation (DOA) is in compliance with government sustainability regulations. The analyst also seeks out sustainability-related federal, state, city and other grants, and leads grant applications for the DOA.
  Supervision Received  Works under very general supervision. May work independently or with other analysts or support team members with responsibility for completion of assigned tasks. 
 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities 

These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned.  • Researches and reviews legislative and regulatory sustainability issues for the DOA, including but not limited to financial initiatives, and disseminates research findings on opportunity or relevance to the airport.  • Synthesizes policy information into documents and presentations for both technical and non-technical audiences • Interacts with internal and external individuals and agencies regarding particular issues.  • Assesses the impacts of policy measures on airport sustainability measures and goals • Seeks federal, state and other grant funding opportunities tied to sustainability, and participates in grant writing opportunities • Develops opportunities for equity and social justice engagement • Assists in developing sustainability strategies and initiatives across airport operations     Decision Making  Selects from multiple procedures and methods to accomplish tasks 
  Leadership Provided  Provides guidance and training as required to lower level, interns, temporary employees, etc.    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities  This is a partial listing of necessary knowledges, skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully. It is not an exhaustive list.  • Knowledge of City, federal and state government policies, practices and procedures • Knowledge of City legislative process • Knowledge of City organizational structure and key contacts within departments • Strong research and verbal and written communication skills • Strong Microsoft Office skills • Strong planning, organizational and presentation skills • Strong interpersonal skills • Strong problem-solving skills • Ability to research legislative topics in variety of sources • Ability to develop contacts with legislative policy makers • Ability to interface with multiple levels within the departments and the Mayor's Office • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in timely manner.   Minimum Qualifications - Education and Experience  • Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Sustainability, or related field (Equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the required degree on an exception basis).  • 3-5 years of sustainability policy work   Preferred Education & Experience  • Master's degree in Public Administration, Sustainability. or related field (Equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the required degree on an exception basis) with 5+ years of public sector/municipal experience. • Knowledge of current and proposed sustainable aviation policies and regulations  • Familiarity with Sustainable Aviation Fuel and/or other aviation-related sustainability technologies  • Familiarity with GHG inventory accounting  • Extensive experience with community engagement • Experience working with quantitative data
