Job Description
About the project.
Fulfilment Domain is one of the major building blocks of our retail business at Tesco. It orchestrates the end-to-end fulfilment experience for our customers, including (but not limited to) picking the products they order, marshaling and scheduling their orders to make sure they get them on time.
The role – what will you do
We operate in a DevOps philosophy. We take responsibility for the software through its entire lifecycle. We practice continuous integration, delivery, and support of our code through to production and beyond.
As a DevOps Engineer, you’ll be part of an agile team of an industry-leading team of engineers upon Tesco’s Fulfilment. You will be creating the future continuous integration and delivery tools for our area, solving problems, and developing new features through quality, scalable, performant, and maintainable technical solutions.
Leveraging on tools like Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform, and others, and services like Azure Cloud, Azure DevOps, you will be responsible for the success of many other talented engineers on their journey to deliver high quality, performant applications.
Whilst specific responsibilities will be dependent upon the changing needs of the Tesco business, the following provides an overview of the role’s key responsibilities and measures:
- Take a business problem and come up with the technical strategy
- Focus on continuous integration and continuous delivery
- High- and low-level design for performance at all levels and with security, availability and reliability at the core of it
- Be a coder; review and contribute a clean code
- Contribute to the definition of features for services owned by your team.
- Effectively communicate your and your team’s progress to your team members, your manager, and other Tesco colleagues.
- Proactively mentor rest of the team and help in hiring
Qualifications
Technology stack which we are using:
- Design: Component and sequence diagram tools, Swagger, etc
- Integration Tools: Kafka
- Orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes and Terraform
- Cloud: Azure Cloud with Azure DevOps
- Databases: NoSQL databases (experience with Couchbase is plus)
- Monitoring and Logging Tools: Splunk / ELK, Prometheus, Grafana or similar tools
- CI/CD – Azure DevOps / GitHub Actions / Argo CD
- Others: Git, Nexus, IntelliJ, VS Code
You will need:
- 4+ years of commercial experience building continuous integration and delivery solutions
- Experience in running and supporting software in production (Using DevOps approach)
- Problem-solving, analysis, and computational skills. You are comfortable designing systems and reasoning about them.
- When tackling problems, you take a thorough and logical approach to solving them and you retain ownership through to resolution.
- Designing and developing systems for high availability and scalability
- Experience working within an e-commerce or at-scale business where security, availability, and reliability are valued
- Depth of professional software engineering experience and best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code
- reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
