About the role

Have you ever wanted to be part of a team who is building industry changing technology? Amazon’s Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband network connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

The Kuiper team is looking for a Principal Logistics Transportation Planner to source logistics service providers, create, design and plan processes, systems and the inbound/outbound supply chain transportation to manage domestic and international and third-party logistics services.

The ideal candidate has experience with multi-modal network planning, sourcing logistics suppliers and measuring performance, global logistics, trade and security compliance, Incoterms, legal contracts/work orders, drives operational experience. This leader has great business acumen and judgment, analytical abilities, written and verbal communication skills, and most importantly, a proven record of implementing scalable logistics programs. They will have a bias toward data driven decision making, be comfortable with ambiguity and juggling multiple projects, be able to think big and creatively (while paying careful attention to detail), and enjoy working in a dynamic environment.

Key job responsibilities
  • Collect data on all projects with short-middle-long range logistics deliverables
  • Plan for multi-modal shipments from end-to-end, owning the 3PL solutions
  • Have proven experience in sourcing and pricing transportation, contract matters, KPI/SLA management in all transportation modes, including ocean, air and ground
  • Knowledge of global and domestic multi-modal regulations applicable to the transportation and labeling of dangerous goods
  • The ability to define transit lanes, complete mapping of the lanes to identify planning gaps, and build SOPs for logistics partners operating within the network
  • Optimize and consolidate freight network activity to apply lean logistic principles for cost savings
  • Work with Manufacturing Operations and Inventory Management to develop and implement the Kuiper inventory and logistics processes, systems and controls
  • Scale logistics capabilities and capacities to meet Kuiper objectives with increasing volumes
  • Work with Export Control and Global Trade Services to design processes and systems to ensure regulatory and trade compliance
  • Select and manage internal and external third party freight and logistics suppliers
  • Have experience with IncoTerms and the review of logistics contracts with Vendors to ensure a favorable outcome for delivering the right services at the right price
  • Extract insights from data and be able to communicate appropriate triggers and actions
  • Exhibit a constant passion for delivering an exceptional customer experience
  • Influence supplier investments in continuous improvement to improve results at continually lower costs and risks
  • Prepare and provide data driven reviews to management with a focus on optimizing the supply chain for expediency and security
  • Represent Kuiper Supply Chain on cross-functional initiatives.
  • Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.



A day in the life
A day in the life of a Senior Logistics Transportation Planner includes, but is not limited to, meeting with stakeholders to assess current Plan of Record, setting and maintaining master schedule of all transportation activities, mapping lanes with 3PL providers and aligning closely with Global Trade Compliance and security partners to incorporate best practices in transportation management. This role is expected to benchmark both internally and externally to utilize existing solutions, and design network strategy for any gaps or unique customer requirements.
