Responsibilities

We are seeking a Behavioral Health CNA (Nights), also referred to as a Psychiatric Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Mental Health CNA at St John Hospital a member of Prime Healthcare in Leavenworth, KS. A Behavioral Health CNA or Mental Health CNA provides care for patients with mental health or behavioral challenges by assisting with daily activities, monitoring behaviors, and promoting a safe, supportive environment. They collaborate with the healthcare team to offer emotional support, identify changes in patient condition, and assist in de-escalating potentially critical situations.

 

Bonus: Up to $1,000 (Paid out as stipends every 90 days)

Shift’s Available:  Nights ($2 differential in pay)

Employment Type: Full-time

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to):

  • Patient Support & Observation:
    • assist patients with daily activities: bathing, dressing, feeding, toileting, and ambulation
    • monitor and report changes in behavior, mood, or physical condition to nurses or doctors; observe for signs of agitation, self-harm, or aggression
  • Safety & De-escalation:
    • help maintain a safe, structured environment, use de-escalation techniques to calm distressed or agitated patients
  • Communication & Documentation:
    • accurately document behavior, interventions, and vital signs, communicate effectively with the care team
  • Therapeutic Support:
    • encourage patients to participate in group activities or therapy sessions, offer emotional support and help build trust with patients
  • Unit Support
    • help with cleaning and maintaining patient rooms, ensure equipment and supplies are stocked

Qualifications

Before we go any further, we do have some deal-breakers. You must have: 

  • current Certified Nursing Assistant certificate upon hire, required
  • current BLS upon hire and maintain current 

Additional Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • possess knowledge of Medical Terminology 

It will be great if you also happen to have these qualifications but not required:

  • minimum six months of previous experience in an acute care hospital or physician’s office preferred
