Position Summary
The Youth Recreation Coordinator must be a committed individual who can work independently and in large group settings to initiate and coordinate all aspects of the Stillaguamish Tribe youth events and activities. Provide direct supervision for After-School Snack and Open Gym programs. Assist in the planning of the Summer Youth Camp, Spring Break Camp, Harvest and Holiday Parties, Graduation Ceremony, Festival of the River Activities, the Summer Youth Trip and other educational events. Supervise and schedule program volunteers as needed. Maintain the daily operations of the Youth Services Department. Prepare records and reports as necessary. Responsible for care and maintenance of equipment and facilities. Must build and sustain collaborative relationships with other departments and provide administrative support to the education department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Develop youth programs, activities, and events by communicating with the Tribe to meet their specific needs or wants.
· Communicate with supervisor and co-workers to determine the needs and wants of the department.
· Ability to work with all youth, including at-risk youth, in an effective and positive manner.
· Perform administrative duties such as, but not limited to, entering and filing invoices, maintaining electronic student records, maintaining and tracking department equipment.
· Must demonstrate skills in coordinating; i.e., budget planning, development and implementation of policies and procedures, and drafting standard operating procedures.
· Coordinate every detail of events, from beginning to end.
1. Plan the scope of the event, including the time, location, program and cost.
2. Inspect location to ensure they meet requirements.
3. Monitor event activities to ensure the attendees are satisfied.
4. Review event bills and forward to supervisor for approval.
· Must be able to problem solve and gather and analyze information.
· Exercise proper use of grammar and writing skills.
· Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and industry technology.
· Maintain, provide, and demonstrate cultural sensitivity and awareness.
· Effective interpersonal and oral communication skills required.
· Must be able to multitask, sometimes with conflicting priorities.
· Ability to perform work independently in accordance with general policies and procedures.
Additional Functions
· Assist the Youth Services Manager and staff as needed.
· Become familiar with grant interpretation, grant reports and requirements.
· Ability to understand and interpret Education/Indian Education policy legislature at a local, state, and federal level.
· Apply remedial math skills up to high school level in a teaching atmosphere.
· Gain knowledge of working with children and adults to phase into individual tutoring duties or support services.
