Job Description:

The Quality & Controls (QC) intern will join a group of four team members and assist in their day-to-day functions during the internship. This includes testing internal controls, pulling or preparing support for audit, reviewing software support for capitalization, performing ad hoc tasks and projects, and helping update documentation for the Capital Assets team. The QC intern will also get exposure to technical accounting questions related to Capital Assets and Bank Reconciliation.

 

Responsibilities:

To include a combination of the following:

  • Work directly with financial analysts to pull software support and determine capitalization qualifications of monthly software costs.
  • Perform monthly and quarterly internal control testing of tangible and intangible assets, the asset register, physical inventory, account reconciliations, bank reconciliations, and journal entries.
  • Update Capital Assets and Quality & Controls documentation for any process or policy changes that have occurred during the year.
  • Support and gather internal, external, and tax audit requests as needed, such as pulling invoices and client contracts, preparing roll forwards and the supporting GL detail.
  • Provide month-end support for Quality & Controls/Capital Assets close processes ensuring compliance to all policies and procedures for capitalization and supply/ensure appropriate support is provided. 
  • Assist in monthly and quarterly reviews and analyses such as sales tax review, closed cost center review, duplicate invoice review
  • Document errors processed by the Capital Assets and Bank Reconciliations departments in an internal tracker to highlight areas of improvement for both teams.
  • Establish and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with capital assets and bank rec departments.
  • Prepare monthly reporting and presentations as assigned.
  • Create documentation and flowcharts to standardize internal policies, processes, and process improvements.
  • Assist management with ad hoc projects or tasks as needed.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting
  • A strong academic record including course work that Compass deems relevant to this position
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel skills required)
  • Demonstrates an interest in process improvements and testing controls
  • Professionalism
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to learn
  • Ability to work effectively in a corporate environment
  • Positive attitude and team mindset is a must
  • Ability to work independently and possess strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3.2 GPA
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Knowledge of IFRS and / or US GAAP 
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Adaptable and flexibility in an ever-changing environment
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • High level of attention to detail
