Director of Inventory Audit

About the role

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

The position includes, but is not limited to, the following essential job duties, responsibilities and requirements:

  • Lead and mentor a team of inventory auditors, including three direct reports who oversee 16 business units.
  • Own short to mid-term strategy execution and operational direction of Inventory Audit team.
  • Make decisions on approaches that are conducive to success of the inventory audit function.
  • Develop and enforce standardized inventory audit policies and procedures across all business units.
  • Regularly interact with upper management to report audit findings and provide updates on inventory accuracy.
  • Analyze inventory data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Determine and implement process improvements to enhance inventory accuracy.
  • Present audit results, trends, and recommendations to senior and executive leadership to support strategic decision-making.
  • Work closely with other departments, such as operations, finance, and supply chain, to ensure cohesive inventory management.
  • Develop and implement training programs for audit staff.
  • Set performance goals and conduct regular evaluations.
  • Create and maintain a scorecard to track and measure the performance of inventory audits.
  • Use the scorecard to identify areas needing improvement and to recognize high-performing units.
  • Ensure that all inventory audits are conducted within a 60-day timeframe.
  • Coordinate audit schedules and resources to meet deadlines.
  • Coordinate with 3rd party auditors during audits.
  • Oversee the execution of physical inventory counts and cycle counts.
  • Ensure accurate recording of inventory transactions and adjustments.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies between physical counts and system records.
  • Prepare detailed reports on inventory accuracy, discrepancies, and audit findings.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Motivates and sets the tone for a positive work environment within the inventory audit accounting team, exhibits behavior in accordance with the “Light of Day” policy.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.  Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
  • Ten years of experience in inventory management, auditing, or a related field preferred, preferably in the retail industry.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills; seven years of management responsibility preferred.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in inventory management software and ERP systems.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills. Effective verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Experience with PDI Retail Suite, Sage, Dynamics, or QuickBooks accounting packages preferred.  Proficiency with MS Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word a plus. 
  • Current travel requirements are 15-20%.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate at a normal range.
