About the role

Project Manager (f/m/d) DW Akademie Namibia

We are seeking for the DW Akademie office in Windhoek, Namibia as of 1 May 2026 or as soon as possible a Project Manager (f/m/d) based on a local staff employment contract initially limited until 31 December 2027.

Your challenges

  • manage and oversee the implementation of project lines for the EU-funded project “Eco Dialogue Collective - Empowering Media and Civil Society for a Transparent Green Future” as well as the BMZ-funded project “Sustainable Voices” in Namibia and Southern Africa
  • planning, administration, and coordination of the projects with partner organizations, working closely with the team and the Program Director to ensure alignment of project activities with overall objectives and timelines; oversee and track budgets, manage administrative tasks, and ensure financial accountability; provide guidance to partner organizations to ensure effective implementation and compliance with donor and organizational requirements
  • organize project activities such as trainings, consultations, business trips, conferences and events
  • manage and coordinate grants and fellowships for media and civil society, including calls for application, strategic selection, contract requests and monitoring
  • moderate and facilitate workshops, trainings and other project-related events; liaise with external consultants and DW Akademie's headquarters in Germany, and identify, select, and support experts, consultants, and trainers involved in the project, including Terms of Reference; brief and support trainers and consultants
  • develop and adapt reference and training materials for media practitioners and project partners
  • monitor and evaluate project activities and prepare comprehensive reports and documentation; support the team in the strategic development and implementation of media development projects in Southern Africa, including project development, donor relations and acquisition
  • build networks with cooperation partners, stakeholders, media organizations and other media development organizations

Your qualifications

  • degree (Bachelor or Master) in Media Studies, Social Sciences, Communication, or a related field
  • several years of professional experience in project management, including project planning, budgeting, financial oversight, monitoring and evaluation, steering, and implementation, ideally within freedom of expression, media development, journalism, or a similar sector; relevant professional experience in international donor-funded development projects, in compliance preferably with EU and BMZ regulations
  • in-depth knowledge and understanding of the media landscapes in Southern Africa, with a focus on freedom of expression topics in Malawi, Zimbabwe, and Namibia; good understanding of environmental journalism is an advantage
  • practical journalism experience and experience as a trainer, consultant, or facilitator is highly desirable and a strong asset
  • proficiency in MS Office, including Excel, and communication platforms (MS Teams, OneDrive)
  • excellent organizational and coordination skills, including the ability to work independently and under pressure and perform and prioritize multiple tasks with excellent attention to detail and accuracy as well as strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain cooperative and productive working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including international teams, partners and external consultants; hands-on and solution-oriented approach to work
  • high level of intercultural competence and respect for diversity, openness to working in a diverse, multi-cultural, and multidisciplinary environment; strong communication skills with professional language proficiency in English (min. level C1); proficiency in further Namibian languages and German is an advantage
  • willingness to travel in the region Southern Africa and occasionally to Germany
