Description
The Center for the Success of English Learners (CSEL) is seeking a part-time Research Associate for 10 hours/week for Summer 2025. CSEL is a national research and development center funded by the Institute of Education Sciences, U.S. Department of Education that involves researchers from NYU, University of Houston, University of Texas, Harvard Graduate School of Education, Strategic Education Research Partnership, and Center for Applied Linguistics. Among a wide portfolio of projects at CSEL, Prof. Michael Kieffer is leading a study on English learners' opportunities to access the general curriculum and advanced course-taking in middle and high school. The study combines secondary analyses of administrative data from New York City Schools and analyses of original survey data to be collected at multiple sites in the U.S. The survey focuses on educators' attitudes, beliefs, and practices regarding English learners' course-taking. The researcher will collaborate with the research team to analyze survey data from New York, Massachusetts, and Texas, and to write up results. The Research Associate will gain mentorship and experience in mixed-methods education research focused on equity and access for multilingual learners. The position will start on May 19 and go through August 29, 2025.
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the hourly base rate for this position is $30-$32/hour. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
Per NYU's remote-work policy, this position is expected to be hybrid, with approximately one day/week meeting in person with the team on NYU's campus and the rest of the work remote.
Position Responsibilities

- Prepare manuscripts with results from survey
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications
- B.A. required
- Experience in education and/or applied psychology research, including original data collection
- Experience working with survey data
- Strong organizational ability with keen attention to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
