The Opportunity

As a Data Engineer, you will design and maintain secure, reliable, and scalable data pipelines that power advanced analytics, reporting, and decision-making across mission-driven federal programs. You will support the integration of diverse data sources, optimize cloud-based data workflows, and enable downstream data science, AI/ML, and business intelligence solutions. This full-time role is contracted through TSPi, Abt Global’s digital services subsidiary.

Core Responsibilities

  • Develop, build, and maintain data ingestion, ETL/ELT, and integration pipelines as defined in the data architectures across cloud environments such as Azure GovCloud or AWS GovCloud.
  • Clean, validate, and transform large datasets to support analytics, dashboards, operational reporting, and machine learning workflows.
  • Develop and support API-based integrations for seamless data exchange across internal and external systems.
  • Automate data workflows and monitor day-to-day pipeline operations to ensure performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Implement best practices and controls for data security, governance, lineage, and compliance within regulated cloud environments.
  • Optimize data flows to support predictive analytics, semantic models, and reporting tools.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and cloud engineers to support feature engineering, data modeling, and analytic solution development.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering standards, documentation, and cloud data operations.
  • Manage pipeline performance, cost optimization and reliability, including monitoring of SLAs and data quality.

What We Value

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least nine years, or master’s degree with at least seven years in data engineering, ETL development, or database engineering.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, and cloud-based data engineering practices.
  • Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines using modern orchestration tools and cloud services.
  • Strong understanding of data quality, validation, and monitoring techniques.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) and security/compliance frameworks in regulated environments.
  • Ability to solve complex problems and collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams.
  • Technical Environment (Experience with One or More is Valued)
    • Cloud Platforms: Azure GovCloud, AWS GovCloud
    • Data Storage & Processing: Cloud data lakes, lakehouse environments; Databricks, PySpark, Python, SQL
    • Data Integration & Streaming: Cloud-native ETL/ELT tools, APIs, Kafka/Event Hubs
    • Analytics Support: Power BI, semantic modeling concepts
    • Governance: Metadata, lineage, and access control tools (e.g., Collibra, Immuta)
    • Applications & CRM Platforms: Dynamics 365, Salesforce

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with government, healthcare, benefits, or payments data environments.
  • Exposure to analytical concepts such as anomaly detection, pattern recognition, entity resolution, or risk scoring.
  • Experience supporting ML feature engineering or operational analytics pipelines.
  • Familiarity with federal compliance standards such as FISMA, FedRAMP, or similar frameworks.
  • Experience working within a data lakehouse architecture
