About the role
We are seeking experienced Medical Technologists to join the VA Iliana Healthcare System in Danville, IL. The ideal candidate will perform a wide range of automated and non-automated laboratory procedures in various specialized areas such as chemistry, hematology, bacteriology, and more, adhering to established protocols.

WORK SCHEDULE:
- 1st Shift: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
- 2nd Shift: Monday through Friday, 3:30 PM - Midnight
Overtime may be required as needed.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Evaluate the suitability of specimens for analysis and request new samples if necessary.
- Prepare specimens for analysis while ensuring the integrity of the sample.
- Perform, evaluate, and monitor test procedures using manual or instrumental techniques as per established protocols.
- Identify malfunctions in testing procedures and implement corrections.
- Conduct quality control procedures and maintain detailed records.
- Calibrate, standardize, adjust, and maintain laboratory instruments.
- Verify instrument functionality using quality control checks and make simple repairs as needed.
- Validate data against patient history and medications to ensure accuracy.
- Perform additional tests when necessary to clarify abnormal results and notify physicians of critical findings.
- Record and verify results in the laboratory computer system.
- Manage specialized supplies and perform sample accessioning in the VA laboratory information system.
- Perform phlebotomy to obtain patient specimens, including blood cultures and compatibility samples.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in medical technology from an NAACLS-accredited program.
- Certification: Current certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or the American Medical Technologists (AMT).
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year within the last 5 years.
- References: 3 required.
