Job Description
AECOM is seeking a highly motivated Entry-Level Geologist to be based in our Arlington, VA, Greenville, SC, Omaha, NE, or Washington, DC offices.
This position is expected to begin September/October 2023.
Job Overview:
The Entry-Level Geologist will serve as a team member in the office and the field, assisting project and program management with design and implementation of soil, groundwater, sediment and surface water investigative and remediation programs, data analysis, and report preparation.

The responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to:
- Geologist position will be primarily responsible for supporting AECOM’s Conceptual Site Modeling practice in our Arlington, Virginia office (or additional locations listed).
- The successful candidate will have a BS/BA in Geology with significant coursework and/or practical experience in GIS database generation, management, conversion, and visualization; coursework and/or applied experience in stratigraphy and stratigraphic data interpretation.
- Candidate must also be able to work as part of a project team comprised of AECOM staff and subcontractors.
- Flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects, a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and commitment to workplace health and safety are imperative.
- This position requires excellent skills in written and spoken communication, organization, time management, and an individual who thrives in a team-oriented environment.
- Duties may include assisting with field work (e.g., borehole logging, groundwater sampling); compiling and evaluating site-related geological, geophysical, hydrogeologic, and environmental data; and preparing detailed geologic cross sections and reports.
- Coursework and/or experience involving sequence stratigraphy and/or hydrogeology in the preparation of detailed geologic/hydrogeologic conceptual site models would be a plus.
- Qualified candidates must be comfortable with field work and assignments that require periodic travel.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or relevant Geological Science discipline (e.g., geophysics, geochemistry, environmental geology, engineering geology)
- Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Valid U.S Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or other related discipline (e.g., Geophysics, Hydrogeology, Geochemistry, Environmental geology, Engineering geology).
- Professional registration or on track to obtain professional registration.
- Ability to travel for fieldwork and/or meetings. This position may require significant travel (several months a year) within the United States.
- Experience with developing conceptual site models and preparing remediation strategies.
- Proficiency in standard office suite software applications.
- OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER Certification or ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire.
- Ability to demonstrate professional demeanor in written and verbal. communications with clients, regulatory officials, and fellow employees
- Ability to write and to convey complex thoughts and ideas in a clear, concise manner.
