- $23.00 - $25.00 per hour (depending on qualifications)
- Reports to Recreation Supervisor- Arts and Events
- Located at Eden Prairie Art Center (7650 Equitable Dr., Eden Prairie, MN).
- Hours vary based on experience and Art Center needs: evenings, weekends, including Sunday shifts needed.
Responsibilities
The Art Center Instructor leads classes, workshops, and special event projects for a variety of ages based on area of expertise and the needs of the Art Center. Must be able to teach ceramics (wheel throwing and hand-building) and/or fused glass (other glass mediums considered if instructor is willing to cross-train in fused glass) at an introductory to intermediate level for children, youth, and adults. Individuals hired for this position may substitute for art classes in other mediums. Preference given to those instructors with experience teaching ceramics and glass. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are:
- Prepares and provides creative curriculum and instruction for ceramics or glass. Works with the Lead Studio Tech to coordinate firings. Instructs special bookings such as birthday/private parties or lessons and events. Ensures students and member needs are met through personal recognition and providing quality service.
- Effectively prepares the necessary resources and supplies prior to class and responds in timely manner to emails and other schedule inquiries.
- Assumes a leadership role as an arts professional through administration of all Art Center policies and procedures, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for participants and monitoring the well-being of all participants throughout art programs. Assists in the upkeep and general maintenance of the Art Center building. May be responsible for opening and closing the Art Center building for programs and open studio time.
While these areas are the primary focus of this position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as a part of their role with the City.
Requirements
- B.S., B.A., or B.F.A. degree in ceramics, studio arts, arts education or related subject required. Significant arts teaching experience may be substituted for a degree.
- CPR and First Aid certifications are preferred.
- Experience teaching adults required.
- Experience teaching children or youth in an educational, community or recreation setting preferred.
- Art teaching experience in a school or art center setting preferred.
- Minimum of 1-year relevant experience required. At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred. Experience teaching both Ceramics and Glass classes preferred. Able to create lesson plans independently for adults and/or youth in wheel throwing, hand-building, and glass. Some equipment training or subject-matter training provided. Weekend/evening availability preferred.
