Your Specific Responsibilities:
This position with the Orange County Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) is primarily responsible for certifying potential low risk participants to the program and for providing nutrition education and breastfeeding education. Travel may be required, therefore, a valid state of Florida driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle are mandatory.
Interviews and screens participants for demographics and WIC income eligibility. Completes required FL-WiSE WIC computer system screens, temporary certification and ineligibility forms; reviews immunization records as per program requirements. Operates FL-WiSE computer system and related equipment including printers, scanners, pin pads, and network printers. Issues food benefits, special formula, and provides required documents to clients. Responsible for security, storage and inventories including but not limited to special formula and Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards. Completes daily and monthly inventories as required. Schedules appointments for participants/potential participants through the FL-WiSE WIC data system. Takes height/length and weight measurements. Ensures anthropometric equipment is calibrated and clean at all times. Performs CLIA waived hemoglobin testing for WIC participants. Calibrates and performs daily controls for Hemocue analyzer. Maintains a log of lab results and services performed. Maintains Hemocue machine and keeps work/lab stations clean and organized. Refers clients back to their provider for all below normal results per local policy. Answers questions regarding access to WIC program services and provides information and WIC client related services as requested. Provides information to participants regarding WIC policies and procedures, rights and obligations, and how to use the WIC EBT benefits card. Refers participants to appropriate health department services, other state programs and/or to applicable community agencies and organizations. Performs follow-up activities regarding referrals for WIC program services and for missed WIC program certification appointments. Instructs participant, parent/guardian in the proxy procedure, certification periods, and appointment policies. Completes and/or updates WIC Program Verification of Certification/Identification (VOC) cards. Offers voter registration and maintains appropriate documentation.
