About the Position:

The Virginia State Police is seeking to hire an Equipment and Applications Specialist Senior at State Police Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The candidate selected for this position will provide senior-level support for the agency’s Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, Statewide Agencies Radio System (STARS), Management Information System (MIS), Mobile Virtual Private Network (VPN) system, and other enterprise systems requiring 24/7 availability. Manage backup strategies and supporting mission-critical systems, oversee internal and third-party software and hardware maintenance on both virtual and physical servers, and ensure stability and performance of systems across multiple platforms. Troubleshoot hardware and software issues, coordinate and provide end user and technician support, and train dispatchers and law enforcement personnel on operating CAD and Mobile systems. Support management and investigators who use the MIS system and offer programming assistance for various applications, including VPN, encryption, and virtual environments. Collaborate with vendors and contractors, lead large-scale technology projects, ensure system security, and monitor project timelines to ensure deadlines are met.

Minimum Qualifications

•Considerable knowledge of Windows Server or Windows desktop past and current system versions administration; and active directory, login scripts, PowerShell, Windows Utilities. Skill in VMWare virtual environment administration; network setup and troubleshooting; and technical troubleshooting.
•Ability to manage multi-tiered projects, support infrastructure, and applications workload in complex multi-tiered environment; to understand and satisfy Virginia State Police data security needs; to communicate effectively orally and in writing in English; to interact with users, agency, state, vendor personnel, and others contacted internally and externally in the course of work; and to respond to system emergencies on a 24-hour basis as needed. • Experience in computer science or information technology. Experience with Windows utilities and both current and legacy Windows server and desktop operating system versions. Experience in testing and supporting all layers of enterprise applications. Experience with VMware administration, backup and recovery technologies, and system performance tuning.
•High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Additional Considerations

•Certifications in CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA), Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) preferred.
