Description
At The Macula Center in Clearwater, Florida, we are looking to hire a Medical Scribe Technician to join our great and dynamic team!
The Ophthalmic Scribe Technician is responsible for providing the highest quality ophthalmic patient care possible. With the ability to increase the efficiency and productivity of the physician in the clinic setting as well as anticipate physician needs, communicate clearly to patients and staff members, and effectively multi-task to facilitate clinic flow. Ensures the proper utilization of time and movement of the patient throughout the patient visit. Performs patient histories, completes requested ophthalmic testing, and consistently provides superior customer service for the patients.

Essential duties include:
- Consistently performs proper documentation of case history, confrontation visual fields, pupil evaluation, screening extra-ocular muscle function, visual acuity, assessment of angle depth, instillation of diagnostic pharmaceutical agents, amsler grid, and other functions as directed by the clinical physician accurately and thoroughly document ophthalmic exams and procedures as they are being performed by the physician.
- Accurately and thoroughly document ophthalmic exams and procedures as they are being performed by the physician. List all appropriate diagnoses and symptoms as well as follow-up instructions and prescriptions as directed by the physician
- Provide patients and/or family members with instructions for self-care and follow-up as directed by the physician
- Performs patient testing accurately and effectively as directed by the clinical provider(s) i.e. Visual Fields, Tonometry, OCT’s, Fundus Photos, etc.
- If assigned to a retina specialist assists retina physician(s) with intraocular injections as needed
- Must understand and follow sterile technique
- Exhibits flexibility, sensitivity, and respect while maintaining an effective working relationship with all team members
- Maintains practice confidentiality, follows HIPAA guidelines
- Maintains proper work-up standards of productivity as defined by physician requirements, patient diagnosis, and Clinical Manager
- Assumes other duties as assigned
Requirements
Essential requirements:
- At least 2 years of ophthalmology scribe or technician experience preferred
- Previous experience in Ophthalmology - Retina, Glaucoma, and Cornea
- Able to complete the home study ophthalmic program within six months of employment
- Have excellent communication skills, proper grammar and writing capability
- Must be able to multi-task, work well under pressure and handle time constraints.
- Possess a caring, positive and friendly attitude
- Have a good understanding of ophthalmic terminology, spelling, and pronunciation
