About the role

The Department of Molecular & Biomedical Sciences at the University of Maine is searching for a part-time Scientific Research Assistant CL1, 35 hours per week. Specific hours are negotiable; however, most of the hours should be Monday-Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. This is a one-year fixed-length position. This position pays $16.74 per hour. 

Scientific Research Assistant Task List for the Angeli lab

  • Collect and prepare samples and materials for analysis
  • Troubleshoot experimental design for optimal results
  • Track and maintain records of experimental results 
  • Prepare solutions and reagents
  • Maintain a record of lab activities, methods, and results
  • Communicate research findings at local and national meetings and conferences
  • Calibrate equipment
  • Clean and organize the lab and equipment
  • Maintain lab cleanliness
  • Monitor and maintain equipment, supplies, and lab inventory
  • Stock materials and supplies
  • Collect delivered lab packages, stock, and record inventory
  • Order lab supplies as needed
  • Delegate tasks to other lab members
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature

Qualifications:
Required

  • High school diploma or GED plus one year of relevant work experience
  • Research experience with the model organism C. elegans
  • Experience with C. elegans data collection methods and techniques
  • Experience with record keeping practices and principles
  • Experience with basic inventory management principles.
  • Experience with office equipment, computers, and related software applications.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in a biomedically-related field
